Hammer Bullets

I've been working with Steve for awhile to make a bullet for my sons 270 wsm. I wanted heavy but he promised me that 117 gr dead blows would do the trick with 58 gr of W760. He was very patient and knowledgeable and I decided to take a chance. He always took the time talked to me without being pushy or in a rush to get off and answered all of my questions. He has earned my business and respect, a great guy. After loading some bullets up to his recommendations, I didn't even get to play with seating depths or run a ladder test as it shot under an inch @ 200 yds so I dialed in the scope and sent 3 more to confirm. Over several month my son shot over 10 goats and 1 sheep so far and they all fell instantly. Most shots under 300 yds with the ram at 566 yds again without taking a step. They work as advertised and I cannot say I will try more "light" bullets but I wouldn't mind building a faster twist 270 for my son using heavier hammers 140+ grains.

I'm pushing the 400gr at 3180fps.
The lighter just wouldn't shoot. It's getting the 411 hammer done now.
Unless you want to really push the distance for targets I would definitely use the hammers. You won't have the issue with hammers as the have mush more contact with the rifling than just one small band. I've not found a better hunting bullet.
My .338 lapua improves is getting the hammers somewhere around the 200 gr weight as soon as I get some time.

The 248 is good choice, very accurate, a good all around load for the H&H, or Ruger.

Thanks. That's what I thought but given lack of experience I wanted to ask those with some knowledge. I also was surprised its estimated bc .229 g7 was higher than the heavier 281gr HH @.212 g7. I know there estimates and can be off by a decent margin but typically between estimates of same caliber and profile they hold in relation. If its within 10 points g7 it should be gtg.

Goal was 26" 375H&H perf from a 22" using a tikka T3 action using a shorter case wildcat. The 248HH 2850 fps @ 500yds≤ keeps me @ or above 2000fps/2000ftlb & 1"/mph for full wind. 2.5x-10x 40mm glass. Would not get much more range from the 260AB @= vel. Maybe 25-50yds.

Nice handy quick swinging lightish back hill country setup; woods-n-bottoms to clearings. I never had issues with heavy recoil even really big double so it should be fine in a 8lb loaded & ready to hunt setup. Can always add a brake.

I would contact Steve and make sure that number is correct. Not that it matters a ton. But they are small and growing fast. Sometimes the numbers could be off.
Not saying it is but that way you are not buying something with to high of hopes. You would be disappointed and Steve would feel bad. He would make it right but mistakes can happen.

I talked to Steve a while back and got some 110 HHs for my 6.5x 47. He recommended CFE 223. I shot 10 rounds trying to find pressure. I got up to 42.5. grains. They all grouped about a 1/2". I shot the 42.5 load over the Labradar. 3200 FPS. I haven't shot any animals yet. Should do very well for me in Florida.

Wow that's fast! I'm running the 124 HH with 41.5 gr of H4350 in my 6.5x47. No velocity data yet. How long is your barrel?

He recommended Varget when I spoke to him. I will post results...waiting for them to arrive.
