Good long range scope with zero stop for beginner

I have 2 Vortex HSTs and they are fine for my purposes. They track well and the turrets are well made with distinctive "clicks" and repeatable zero. What they lack is clarity in low light but for the price I can't complain...

I agree with this but add that low light performance is more than adequate unless you crank the magnification up in low light. There's an illuminated version for sale either on this site or on AS.

I have a VX6...great glass and nice turrets.

I will be adding a Meopta Optika6 for my son's gun. I have a set of Meopta binos and they are great glass for the money.

I do but I never found that it was something I had to have. I switch scopes btw guns often enough that I never bother setting the zero stop. I just mark a line on the turret housing with a pencil b/c I'm usually in a hurry. Zero stop isn't a bad thing at all but it's another feature you're gonna have to pay for. You can usually find better deals on old model scopes before they had a zero stop and save some money. Red tape or pencil has never failed me.

Anything works as long as one is cognizant of the situation. Few of us shot last week, one guy with a zero stop scope was a full rev off, not the 15moa of a turret like in your pic, but 16 mils. No idea where in the abyss his bullet landed on the first 2 shots. Your system was every bit as good as his, lol

I've heard good thangs about them I do like riton optics as well there a veteran based and employed company and the scopesbi have from them are really nice.i almost bought a tract when I purchased my last scope but haven't got any good info on them

Meopta Optika 6 4.5-27x50 is under $900 for ffp and has good glass and a zero stop. It's a little heavy.

Or save up to $900 and get a great scope that matches your needs. Bushnell Elite Lrts in 4.5-18x44. It's ffp, has an excellent reticle and a very easy to use zero stop. And excellent glass for the money. It's very easy to get behind even at the full 18x. A lit of scopes in this price range and high mag have picky eyeboxes.

Dollar for dollar this has been my favorite purchased scope. I have the hs-lr and an hs-t . I have the hst on a 300 ultra that has shot beyond 1000 yards and killed plenty of game.

I have shot the hslr @ 1400yards on my creedmoor. Dials it right on the money.
They have zero stop shims that do the job. 4-16 or 6-24x available. The scopes work well and youll have $$ left over for quality hd binoculars which in my opinion is where your clarity really matters. I spend hours on binoculars and minuts in the scope.

I would like

1inch tube but 30mm is okay
I have all 2nd fps scope but would like to give ffp a try
Lowest power level ould be say 3 I like 4 to 4.5 on most of my scopes
Budget would be no more than 800 right now but can hold out and save for a better one

I have 3 vortex scopes as well sightrons. They all perform well. I have used both for 1000 yd benchrest and hunting. I have had no tracking issues. I have had some other well known names which I won't mention and when I clicked out beyond 800 yds I always had issues with them returning to zero and eventually I had issues with them tracking beyond 800 yds. My Vortexoptics have been flawless and I have been running the pst every since they came out and they still track and return to zero. No issues. I like there warranty on how they stand behind things. So I would think that if you were on a hunting trip and something happened they go your back. I think they are a good bang for the buck.

For your price point in FFP scopes and a 1" tube, you have placed a tall order. 30mm are often minimal tube selection for LR. I have 34mm and 35mm scopes. At your $ level, you would be best to go the used scope route. But most scope companies have Lifetime Warranties, so you have peace of mind. Your selections are also narrowed when you want a Double Duty scope. I'd recommend getting a hunting reticle and reach out with it on the target range. Trying to use a tactical or LR MOA or MilDot reticle in hunting is a real challenge.
You need to go to an optics counter and compare a few scopes. Such as Nikon, entry Vortex, Cabela's brand (some are very good Meopta), Bushnell and Weaver. IMO you should increase your price threshold for your requirements.

Yeah, I guess you could call them the "Honda Accord" of scopes! I have a 6.5 x 25 on my 6.5 Lapua and a 4 X 16 on my 6.5-284. Money I saved went to high end Redding dies and brass!

other than it's the 30mm tube and you want other than leupold, the Leupold LRP 4.5-14x50 FFP TMR sounds like it would be exactly what you set for parameters. It is versatile enough that if you move up as you get deeper into the LR quicksand you will find another use for it too.

I've looked at those and I really like them found a good deal on a used one but not sure if they still have it.have you used one before? Wasnt sure how they were

Not real picky on cross hears butbi do like for instance the tri moa like in leupolds or Boone and crocket but I'm open to different ones

You can probably get a vortex or a sighting for that price range !
