Ever Misplace A Rifle in your Home

So…..ever hear the stories of someone misplacing a gun and later a child finds it and blows his head off with it?
Or ever hear about someone's house getting robbed and their guns get stolen?
I am anal about my weapons.
I had/still have kids at home, but fortunately they are now old enough to be responsible because I taught them safety.
But there are kids who was never taught safety or what a firearm can do.
You do whatever makes you comfortable and hopefully nobody ever gets hurt.
As for me I put my $8,000 rifle away in a locked 2000lb bolted down safe when I'm done with it.
I have no kids at home (Great grandad). My kids and grandkids are adults themselves, and the rare occasions any children come to our home, we lock the inside-the-house firearms away. I have a shop that is over-filled with equipment, supplies, etc, etc, and sometimes, one forgets were some things are. The same goes for items when moving, transporting, etc, etc.

IF you read my earlier posts, you know I have several safes filled with firearms, but at various times, some of those may be in the shop for various reasons, taken out for shooting, scope replacements, bedding, triggers, etc, and a few are located in the house for personal protection.

I am glad you have an $8,000 rifle, but that is meaningless to the point.

Heck, even as a younger man, I once misplaced an Army UH-1. It did not take long to find it.

I'm usually pretty organized but sometimes I can't find something and it really ticks me off . This last October I was packing a backpack for a hike in deer hunt here. I couldn't find my GPS. Found old one that I had forgot about though...
I had searched my backpack already twice. Later on I decided to search again (week later) and found it in very bottom of one of the pockets. I was mad but relieved I didn't leave it in the mountains somewhere.

LOL.......

Some of you people must be perfect. I, and many others, are not, especially at my age.
I have "well" into 6 figures of firearms value and 3 figures in number, and sometimes, regardless of value, I have misplaced a few items. Not lost, just misplaced.

I am not perfect. Never said I was. If I do not clean as I go and put things back where they belong I will misplace them.

My firearms are on my hip, in the two gun safes, in cases ready to go shooting or hunting, on the work bench being cleaned or maintained, on the shooting bench at my club, or in the bedside compact safe.

I was at a U2 concert many years ago. As they do they had a few monologues about their political views. One of them was decrying our lack of "gun control" in this country. They had a video and description of a tragedy where a little kid had access to a firearm. The case in question was one in which dad had a handgun in a paper bag that the kid was able to reach. That is an extreme case but it illustrates the need for safe storage. Dad was an idiot. But at least he had a paper bag around the gun rather than just stashing the firearm behind a door or hanging it on a nail and forgetting about it.

I can kind of understand losing a gun in the field. I am anal about checking my area when I move on from a stop. If I have to stop for whatever reason or take of something and set a firearm down it will usually be resting on my pack or other gear. I keep my gear together so I can gather it all up at once. I do a mental checklist as well. As I said I am not perfect. I have routines so that I have less of a chance to lose things. I have certain pockets that I keep things in so Important items have less of a chance to get lost.

I do not set my gear where it has a chance to be harmed or destroyed. I would not set my rifle on the ground in front of my truck for example.

I was icefishing a few years ago. Packed up and went home. Next time I needed my GPS I could not find it. I looked for two years. I had given it up for lost. I went back to using an older one because the loss made me feel like if I replaced it I would lose it as well. Then I needed to blow some snow. I grabbed my old bibs and there it was in the pocket it always is in. I had loaned my good bibs to a buddy out fishing with me and used my old ones. I had looked in the new bibs but forgot I was wearing my old ones. Even my routine if using the same pocket for my electronics had failed me. My pistol on my hip did not get lost.

One thing that they state of Minnesota has done as a blue state is to step up and remove sales tax from gun storage devices. They have passes safe storage laws in many areas of the country. So with that in mind firearms storage in MN is just a little bit less expensive.

I do........What is your point?
I have well into 6 figures of firearms value. Did you not read my earlier posts? Value has nothing to do with forgetting.
It has everything to do with it.
It appears you like to brag on what you have, good for you.
But if criminals are reading this forum right now and decide to rob someone I'd say they would be smart to rob you.
You apparently leave all your expensive guns out of the safes and have 6 figures worth of firearms….it be bank for them.
Like I said. You do you and I'll do me.
Out……

WTH!? What part of my owning several safes did you miss or do you not understand? I do have a few firearms in the house for protection and occasionally have a few in the shop for various reasons.
