Ever Misplace A Rifle in your Home

2 years ago buddy and I were going deer hunting up the mountain. I loaded my truck in morning while still dark. I park up off the street next to fence. I drove about 3 miles to his house. He's loading his gear in my truck. It's a little light out now. Last thing he loads in truck is his rifle. It hit me. I didn't remember loading my rifle and pistol into truck . I said get in quick ! Got home and the rifle leaning upper against fence and 10mm in shoulder holster hanging on fence. Glad I didn't drive an hour up the mountain and notice missing.
Lately I've been forgetting things. He now goes through a checklist to make sure I have everything. Keys, wallet, hat, etc.. Lock your door ? Not funny anymore 🙄
The more things a person does makes one more vulnerable to misplace or forget things lol due to the fact that one could have done 100 things in an hour or two 😃 I do carpentry, metal work, mechanic, handyman, reloading & shooting and my job, yard, ect just like many of us 😃 lol I can lose a tape measure attached to me 🤣

Haha guilty. Had some people working at the house so I put my carry gun under the mattress. Later couldn't find it. I thought I had left it in the truck and it got stolen. I was just about to call the cops when it hit me. 🤦‍♂️
I have a couple guns hidden in house. A few months ago I couldn't find a certain pistol where I kept it. I looked all over but didn't member moving it. I kept thinking somebody stole it. A week later I told buddy about and we were looking under and all around. Little while later I cussed out loud after I went in bedroom to look. Buddy said what ? It was in a holster sitting in back end of bookshelf in plain sight next to bed . 🙄 I carried it one day instead of the usual pistol I carry. I was mad at myself and a little embarrassed

Yes. I have a couple of handguns, a riot shotgun and an AR-15 Carbine in the house at strategic points, and one time, I misplaced the AR-15 and could not remember where it was. After a few days of searching, I was moving some clothes on the lower hangers in the walk-in closet, and there standing behind the clothes was the tactical case with the AR. Then, I remembered I had moved it when my wife was cleaning the bedroom several days before.

Two friends have done the lean your rifle on truck deal. The one never got his back. For a period I road horse with my rifle tucked under leg point backwash more comfortable to me.One day we got back after all day ride, I had no rifle. So I took off back in and when I came to ride around later road.the gate had caught my sling and there my 340wby was hanging, sigh of relief. This did cause me to go to a zip up scabbard .Which riding out of dark timber after hiking all over up high no luck.A small bunch with nice 6pt was near and my buddy in front didn't even see them,I was trying to get rifle out and had to dismount and was in steep section, horse wanted to be with the other one and wasn't able to clear it quickly enough with horse trying to step one,no shot.My old set up would have scored

Not expensive enough to keep track of them.
LOL.......

Some of you people must be perfect. I, and many others, are not, especially at my age.
I have "well" into 6 figures of firearms value and 3 figures in number, and sometimes, regardless of value, I have misplaced a few items. Not lost, just misplaced.

So…..ever hear the stories of someone misplacing a gun and later a child finds it and blows his head off with it?
Or ever hear about someone's house getting robbed and their guns get stolen?
I am anal about my weapons.
I had/still have kids at home, but fortunately they are now old enough to be responsible because I taught them safety.
But there are kids who was never taught safety or what a firearm can do.
You do whatever makes you comfortable and hopefully nobody ever gets hurt.
As for me I put my $8,000 rifle away in a locked 2000lb bolted down safe when I'm done with it.

I lost an 870 SP a few years ago. Had made up my mind that somebody thought they needed it worse than me and stole it out of one of my vehicles. About two months later I was going around fence close to where my pond is at and there lying beside a post was my shotgun. ding ding ding!!!! I was out attempting to shoot some ducks one day and a vehicle that I didn't recognise pulled into the place. Didn't really want to go strutting up there with a shotgun over my shoulder so leaned it up against the post. And with my memory, "nuff said". Caught a little snow on it in the mean time and with the action being open it cased a little rust inside but was able to clean it up. Outside was pretty good due to the parkerization. Stripped it all down and had a buddy cerakote it and it's as good as new. Whew!!! This Sometimers disease sucks.

lol one should laugh at their own idiosyncrasy's ❗️and I'm loving this thread being others own up to their mistakes also 😃 besides, who doesn't like a good story ❗😃 my numbers are like yours 😃

About 3 weeks ago buddy and I were out trying to fill doe whitetail tags. Later on we went looking for pheasant, chukar and grey's up the road aways. We shot a few chukar and grey's. I took off binos and sat on top of truck cab. Took off jacket threw in truck. Went over and took a piz. We got in truck and turned around and took off . About 2 miles down the road, made a right turn then down a half mile then I said hold on ! I got out and my Swaro 10x42 SLC"s that I've had for 35 years were right there in top of cab. 😳
