Ever Misplace A Rifle in your Home

I bought a spare mag for my 308 BLR when I wantednd it I couldn't find the dang thing, fast forward a few days and I'm packing up my ammo ready to go out, I noticed I had an MTM 50 box for large rifle ammo which I couldn't remember buying.
I opened it and there was the mag sitting on top of some freshly loaded rounds of 130 grn TSX, just enough room to get the mag in alongside the ammo.
So now my rock and string is a magnetic parts tray that sits on the door of one of my gunsafes and the mag resides there in plain view camouflaged with lee sizing dies and various other odds and ends that I don't want to misplace....

I left a Sig P365 handgun on top of my black truck crossover toolbox one evening as I was putting gear away following an afternoon at the range with my wife. I got up in the dark at 6:00 the next morning to have breakfast with my hunting buddy at a cattlemen's diner. As I got on the 4 lane country road, I heard a "clunk" behind me that I didn't recognize. I didn't give too much thought to the noise until I was almost done with breakfast and realized what the noise probably was. I left the diner at about 7:30 and drove back to where I heard the noise. The 365 was laying in the median, a bit beat up from skidding across the road, but still completely functional.

I had a buddy get out of the truck to take his coat and stuff out of his pack, set his rifle down on the bipod beside the truck and left it on the mountain. Lucky the person who found it was honest and returned it
A guy I know went back to the truck to warm up. Put his custom .257 STW on the bipod - in front of the truck.
Yup, he drove over it. At least he found it.

I lost a standard Ruger Redhawk .45 Colt on the tundra north of Lake Iliamna on a caribou drop hunt. Had been prone and glassing on a ridge, when I slid back on my belly it came out of the cross draw. A mile back in camp as I'm taking off the pack frame and all the other gear I find my holster is empty. Put all the stuff right back on and headed back out. It was a pretty sight to see that thing lying there!

Lost an over and under shotgun in my 10'x20' shop - for nine months. I knew it was in that room, somewhere. I actually thought it was kinda cool I had that many guns in there!

My collection hasn't amassed to that point yet but it's on its way lol. I'm bad about misplacing magazines. But my dad on the other hand has misplaced a few but they always turn up somewhere in the house. And he's in his 70s now. So every now and then I have to stop him from buying something at a gun show that he already has and forgot about

Oh shucks. Everyone needs an extra rangefinder or two.

I was elk hunting out of Pagosa Springs with outfitter few years ago. An absent minded friend went with me. One night meeting up at horse tie up, his guide and him were talking about couple elk encounters when I noticed something odd. I asked my friend, where is your rifle? He actually searched his shoulder?! 😂😱 That alone had me rolling! So after quick discussion, he left it against tree where they took last stand. Now it's dark now and the guide believes he can go get it! Crazy! In the dark he goes back in. Hour later he comes back out and yes he found rifle! I told buddy his tip just got boosted but my buddy said: Why? He didn't notice I left rifle. I asked; did you miss 9#'s off your shoulder?

I never misplaced a rifle, we were moving and I forgot I put a pistol in my wife's drawer and looked for about 3 weeks til we found it. Another time we had on our water shoes putting our hunting gear into the truck and we left the house only to get to the hunting location and realize our hunting boots were at home, lol. We hunted in our water shoes that day.

I just recently found a box of powder that i lost. It was right where I placed it...regardless of how much I blame my wife most of the time it's my fault...but I never tell her that. 😆
Most everything I lose was "right where I placed it". Most of those places seemed like a really good idea at the time. The shame is many of those places were picked specifically so I would not lose the item. :)
