7mm RemIf you had to choose one rifle to hunt everything from antelope to elk, what would it be? This rifle must use components that are readily available. It must also be a caliber that is inherently accurate. No need to waste 600 rounds of 1000 round barrel life doing load development. I want to build a rifle but can't decide what to build.
It is one of my three PRS rifles.6 dasher is a bit light for elk

Is it the same thing... A gun to do it all or the only gun I have7 Rem Mag.
Put some money into a 6.5-06. You will not be unhappy. If you had to choose one rifle to hunt everything from antelope to elk, what would it be? One rifle for everything is like eating one thing the rest of your life. If I was younger I would say 338 win mag then as time slips away 300 wsm and as I am now 63 yrs old I would choose a 280 rem in a Remington mountain SS. Same bullet as a 7 mm rem mag , just need to get closer to the game. It is light weight and low recoil. A 270 win or 308 win would work too but I don't think you would regret the 280 rem. And the possibility of reaming it out to Ackley Improved is an option.
Guys! don't leave out the good ole 284 Winchester. It is coming back strong!I'm not a magnum guy myself so take that for what it's worth. My vote would be 280AI if you reload. If not, 30-06. If you must have a magnum, 300WM.
Best kept secret in the hunting world..period !! I bought a model 7 stainless synthetic in .300 Sami and would not trade it for ANYTHING and I mean anything sold today...great rifle, if you can find one on Earth..
I bought this 20 years ago REM 700 300 saum. stainless. She shoots anything I put in it. I've been a victim to gunderwear and bought the most lavish of all rifles and every time I come back to her.

The old Wyoming rancher told me that if the 7x57 was a woman she would be a solid 10.7x57
