Bullets Getting Stuck In Barrel

Stop shooting and get it to a gunsmith, especially if this is happening with factory ammo.

Similar issue with a "custom" .300 WSM I had built by a sketchy "gunsmith". I had to take it back to him 4 times. Each time with a different excuse...mostly blaming factory ammo being out of spec. Turns out the chamber was never cut properly, depth was off, and it all needed to be polished. I'll also have to mention the rifle discharging when I closed the bolt...he blamed "proud primers"....nope, it was the incorrect size roll pin on the timney trigger. I guess he couldn't find a finishing nail big enough, so he threw in some mystery roll pin he had lying around. Good thing....ATF raided the guy, and he's no longer in business. I send all of my builds to LRI now (Long Rifles, Inc.)....never, ever have any issues when I use them.

I understand the possible short throat issue but why would it happen to just one or two rounds out of a box of 20? Seems like if it was a barrel issue then it would happen everytime…sorry for the rookie questions its just my first time dealing with this
I'm guessing the randomness is timing? Shoot three in a row to create heat in the bore and then stick a bullet in and allow to cool around bullet like a puller and there you go.🤠

So awhile back I bought a used pre-fit barrel off here for my Bighorn Origin. I was told its a Krieger 1:7.5 twist 6mm Creedmoor. I torqued it on my action, checked headspace and zeroed it and everything shot fine. Using all factory ammo Hornady Black 105, Hornady Match 108 ELD-M, VMax 87, and even ELD-X 103 I have had 5 different issues with the bullets getting lodged in the chamber before firing. The bolt will close most of the time but then pulls out the brass and leaves the bullet whenever if try to open it back up. The ELD-x i never could even get the bolt to close at all.

Is this a Hornady issue or is this barrel jacked up?
My son an I have 260 rem an we hand load for them. His is a mcwhorter an he has to run factory ammo thru his bullet seater an seat them just a little deeper so they don't get stuck. Accuracy does not seem to be affected. He just shot cor-bon 130 Berger's after he ran them thur seater die an they shot .4

Since you dont reload and you cant figure out whats wrong, take it to a gunsmith. As stated if multiple factory ammo hang its a short throat or a built up carbon ring. You could try applying Sweets 7.62 to the barrel/chamber liberally, let it sit for an hour and brush then patch it out. See if it removes any carbon, before taking it to the smith.

This is a real easy situation to remedy if you are the type of person that reloads and has learned to use a uni-throater(very easy to do). If you're a casual shooter and only us factory ammo, stick to factory guns. Learning basics like mounting scopes, torquing on barrels, installing triggers, tuning magazines, loading ammo, measuring throats, etc can make a situation like this a Tuesday night 30 min project and avoid the, "Dangerous! Get it to a gunsmith ASAP" panics.

I have built more AR15s than probably anybody in this thread and am more than proficient with the use of torque wrenches, and hand tools. I am gathering supplies to start reloading however this is my first forray into bolt actions so came here hoping to learn more.

Also, I have removed the trigger and disassembled the bolt each time the issue arose and cleaned them thoroughly

Thank you all for your insight, I will be removing the barrel tonight and taking it to a smith this weekend

He doesn't have a headspace problem. He has a lack of freebore problem.
This is correct.

This is the correct thing to do. There's an issue with the chamber. if you get a sketchy feeling I'd call someone like LRI or SAC to send it to one of them.

Shouldn't be that much of a step up to measure the throat yourself then. When you remove the barrel, stick one of your factory rounds in the chamber and observe how much of the casehead sticks out of the back of the chamber. You will feel the lands grabbing the bullet as you pull the round out with your fingers. A person can use this tool to lengthen the throat until you feel no resistance of the bullet engaging the lands when you insert the loaded round in the chamber.

It's that easy.
