Berger Match Hybrid Target 215 gr for Hunting?

Dude im a capitalist first and foremost.
Im also a doctor whose fees are set by the government.
I get supply and demand and when there is less the wholesale price goes up and its passed on to consumers but 800 for a lb of powder or 250 for 1000 primers goes beyond that imo.
So let me ask you something Mr Free Market- If you or someone you love needed medical care to stay alive, would you be ok with bidding on it?
Maybe you lose and die or maybe you win but are bankrupted, but its " free market". You OK with that?
I'll bite yes I would because if the government wasn't involved you would have a competitive market.
Take a look at say lasik.
When that came out it was very expensive but because it's a non essential procedure the price has also been driven down by the free market competition.
Keep in mind in that same free market we wouldn't have an insane health insurance costs either. From a guy that has had 27 major broken bones all separated times and had a mother that ram a surgical dept. I can tell you that the government is the one driving up the cost of healthcare and only then. Everything they try and fix they make worse.
Ever watch them try and take a **** it's priceless it gets all over their shoes.

Not to mention joe do you think health cared worked before they stepped in just a hint it worked just fine. If someone could not afford the procedure you had a great social fabric help. I've never seen a church to this day that's not will to help. Same with the so called war on poverty.

Couple things here and then I'm done with the thread derail monologue,

First of all "price" was never mentioned, yet you created a false sense of "gouging" & "exorbitant prices" out of thin air and you believe in your own fantasy/alternate facts

second, my feelings on what the bullets sold for ... were compared by me to what I'd purchased them for, several years back, which I felt was amusing but right in line with current prices you'd find at Midway, same place I bought them ..... what most here would pay, if they were currently in stock .....

The lowest blow is creating scenarios of natural disasters and medical emergencies and comparing them to a few boxes of bullets sold on a website, creating false truths to spark your own false outrage over free men engaging in free commerce... essentially outs you as a Socialist regardless if you admit it or not, the mental thought process is there, on your mind and now in print .... so be it !

Now back to Berger Bullets ....

Two black bear taken with the 215 gr Hybrids, bullets didn't fail, they worked as others have reported over the years, range and velocity created results that made me shy away from using them again for the type of hunts I was engaged in, a simple extension of range at impact would most likely have mirrored other hunters experiences, my hunts didn't allow for that

Thanks for sharing your experience with this bullet… it mirrors others I have read, and my own experience with Berger VLD's in general. I like the Berger's for varmint bullets and for long range big game. I shot a bull elk at 1098 yards with a 7mm 180 grain HVLD and it mushroomed nicely. Got another this year at 1176 with the 215 and while it killed the elk fine expansion was minimal. For normal ranges, out to 600 or so I use accubonds. The Berger's only for long range. I want to kill my game but not destroy it.

That's where they shine way out when the speeds get lower.

Not looking for fights with anybody on here
I dont like what has happened to component pricing during this shortage but as you say no one is forcing anybody to participate in your auctions
Anyway sorry this escalated to this point
Have a safe and healthy New Year

I've had good luck with the 215 Berger's. I always check that the tips are open. Deer from 80 yds to 734 yds. Elk from 100 yds to 625 yds. Only problem I have with them is the blood shot meat. It can be very severe. My friend shot a bull elk at 300 yds this year and we lost a lot of meat on the entrance side. My deer at 734 yds was blood shot from nose to tail. Entered at last rib and exited center of off side shoulder. It's hard to switch to another bullet, but I may try some hammers out of the 300 win mag. My 300 win shoots the 215 right at 3000 FPS.

A bit off track but Has anyone loaded this bullet in the Sherman 300 mega? I'm considering rechamber or rebarrel from my current 300 WSM and wondering about bullet speed. I'm getting 2817 currently.

I cut my own meat and hate dealing with the bloodshot I get from Berger's . Nosler 210 lrab will cure that . Work great in 300 prc running over 3100 fps, even at close range .

If this was the case and those distances why would you not use a hammer? Not trying to start argument genuinely curious. Is it in case a much longer shot presents itself?
I run the 181 in my 300 win and at those distances would save a lot of meat. Deer the Berger is Awsome for bang flop but elk that stuff is to good to waste.

Be careful with posting you are over 3100fps on this board. Seems if you posted you do that with a 30 sherman you are way over pressure. 😛
That is smoking fast. I'm only able to get 3180fps out of the 215 hammer in my 30 Sherman. At your speed I could only imagine the bloodshot meat it produced with a Berger.

No argument here. Basically I feel I've got caught up in the heavy for caliber high BC bullets. Guess I'm a slow learner. I finally realized other than the one deer and one elk, all game was under 500 yds. I've been slowly switching some guns to the hammers. They've been working excellent. Very expensive to get here in Canada. But still a small price to pay compared to custom rifles, trucks, hotels/lodging etc. Once you got your load and drops I don't use these guns for practice or long range steel. I agree on wasting elk meat. Hate to see that. Think I'll try a hammer in the 170-180 gr range. Maybe lighter if I can talk myself into it.
