My first custom, a 28 nosler, should be finished by the end of the week. Now I'm already wanting to start another. If so I'll part ways with current gun to fund it. But, as the title states what calibers would yall recommend. I think I'd like a 30 cal. But open to all options. I tend to lean towards the hotter rounds.

If you want HOT ROUNDS, build something on the RUM case, either the 338RUM with its shorter stature to load long.
I have one in the works currently, haven't decided on calibre yet, tossing up 6.5mm, 7mm, 30 or 35. Looked at the 358STA to base a wildcat on, but the RUM just gets that little bit more ooomph.
If you want REALLY HOT, go 416 Rigby Improved, starting at 30 cal with 40° shoulder, or 45° shoulder, you can go 338, 358, 375, 408 or even 450. As calibre goes up, you can increase shoulder angle to keep powder burning inside the case, I have experimented beyond 45° with 375 calibre, but it works best, on paper at least, as you get into 408 and above.
You can get close with the NMI, but it lacks capacity to match the full size Rigby Improved case, and you need a much larger action, mine are on either CZ 550 Safari Magnums, modified to accept 4"+ long cartridges as single shots, or repeater Granite Mountain Magnum actions.

Cheers.

But….they're all small bores!

If ya want a magnum, you need to at least consider some "medium" bores. Or as mentioned, step up to a "big bore" like the 416 Ribgy Imp. 😉 memtb
I am admittedly a small bore guy. When I think I want a magnum I go to a 257 weatherby or 6.5-300.
I have a friend who's "small rifle" is a 300 weatherby for critters up to deer. I still don't think he's right in the head, but he's a happy camper with the rifle we call "black death".

Option #1 - a 6.5 Creedmore, isn't it obvious? Guys here are taking Moon shots with them and adding more craters to the surface, and probably getting .75 miles of penetration to boot. And there's the guys that take the things hunting for T-Rex fer cry'n out loud. Amazing round no doubt. I think I'll rebrand it the 6.5 Millenneal Magnum. So - the 6.5 MinMag for the win? 😬

And perhaps a .223 with the 77gr TMK as a backup gun? Some guys use it on Grizzly Bears - increadibly versatile round!

Can't believe I typed all this.

How about a 30-378 Weatherby Magnum - that's a hot round.

I think the 30-378 would be a good choice. I was too busy being the class clown to be the cool kid. I like belts. And I have a set of 30-378 dies I could part with, if you need them.
