Anybody running a suppressor?

Just got mine. Here are my first thoughts. Had to wait 14 months. Not as quite as I expected. You still need to wear hearing protection. Unless you are shooting sub sonic. If you want to shoot sub sonic in a AR get a 300 Blackout or a bolt for other calibers. Glad I bought the model with the quick connect. I also bought one for a 22. I love it. It is way too much fun. With sub sonic it's quite, accurate, and a hoot to shoot. Would I do it again knowing the wait time. The 22 no doubt. The 30 caliber only if I had a specific need. Examples. You want a sub sonic 300 blackout. You want to reduce noise for yourself and shooting buddies. For coyote hunting next to your brother.

I'm considering buying one, never used one before. Anybody here have any opinions to throw out there ? Pro's ? Con's ?
Take your time in buying one.If HPA passes you'll save on a tax stamp.

You shouldn't need hearing protection, even in 338L.

CON- You will have to clean your rifle more often. My brass looks like it has soot on it.
It is not only your brass. The carbon build up in your barrel goes way up as well. It makes sense as the gas being compressed in the can prior to the bullet exiting wants to go somewhere. Carbon is tough on barrels and can tough to get out after it is baked on. Definitely requires more cleaning

I have an Elite Iron, Sig Titanium and a Lane Scorpion love them all. Elite is the toughest all stainless the Lane is the loudest but very light 11 oz. Accuracy improved on all rifles only adjustment necessary was POI scope adjustment. The only carbon build up I have experienced is in the can itself and on the crown of the barrel. I have easily fired over 3000 rounds through 5 different rifles. All are direct thread and when moved or removed and replaced I have had very little if any POI shift. Having said that switching between different cans on a individual rifle there has been small POI shift. Just my experience. To the OP buy 2 you won't regret it.

Even shooting supersonic when shooting herd animals like deer and hogs where follow up shots are likely they are great. Quite often even though they hear the crack they have absolutely no idea at all where the shot came from.

For night hunting particularly with smaller calibers/small to medium cases the reduced flash signature makes them worth their weight in gold.

Here in New Zealand you can pick up a supresser of the shelf so everybody uses one but it makes your rifle a bit more clumsy and maybe a bit shorter barrel life but on a hunting rifle thats not an issue. They sertinly cut down on the echo and animals around the next corner dont seem to hear

Echo what others are saying here - once you start shooting with one, you won't want to go back to shooting without. I have a TBAC Ultra 7 and have the Thread Over Muzzle Brakes on rifles from 6.5 CM to 300 WM - takes just a few seconds to unscrew from one rifle and screw on the next. It adds a few inches to the barrel, so when hunting, you may need to change the way you carry the rifle - just got the Kifaru carry strap and allows you to carry the rifle more slanted - definitely needed if you are hunting timber.

As to the groups changing.. i've never experienced this. Not with TBAC anyway, i have maybe 1/10th shift in POI but i've never had a group open up from .33 to 2". Even with my SiCo cans with the Area 419 hellfire system haven't seen that much difference in accuracy from can to Jon's brake.

I will say at the moment i wouldn't look to SiCo even owning two of their cans something seems to be going on there. I myself am worried they're going under after most repeatedly joking about it, seems to be looking that way. Wondering who will take care of my cans if something goes wrong. Already had my Omega mess up once and had to send it in.

I went TBAC for my first can and SiCo the last two. The SiCo cans are nice but they're not TBAC. Wish i would've spent a little more money on both purchases and gotten an Ultra 7 and Ultra 5.

TBAC, Liberty, and Dead Air are 3 of the nicest cans I've handled. When the HPA passes, I plan to buy a few of each. Here's my planned lineup so far... Ultra 9 for the bolt guns, Ultra 7 or Sandman-L for the AR's (decide when the time comes), Sandman Ti or Liberty Sovereign for the lightweight deer rifle (direct-thread, super light), Ghost 45 for the pistols, Liberty Regulator for the .22's and .17 HMR's, and a Thompson Machine Operative 10/22 integral.

I fear SiCo will go the way of AAC, and be bought out by some big corporate group, and then everything they produce will be slightly upgraded and barely any innovation, and they'll fall way behind every other brand.

I don't understand what's happening at SiCo i know the HPA put a kink in sales for almost all suppressor companies but they seem to be spiraling. At least if we're to go on their employees selling all their assets. But yeah kind of at a loss if they go under, hopefully a great company buys them out. Guess i could try to sell and go back to TBAC across the board, would much prefer that anyway. Dunno what i was thinking with needing full auto rated cans...

Cons: Weight, cost and process of acquiring.

Pros: Lack of noise. With mine on a .308 I'm able to shoot outdoors without ear pro, but if shooting near any sound reflective surface you'll probably want some muffs. Low recoil with a supressor makes my.308 feel like a .22. I have a Tactical Operations can. Took about six months to get my stamp in 2014.

I have a TBAC Ultra 5. It's one of the finest investments I have ever made. I also have a YHM ultralight, purchased before I saw the light and bought a TBAC. it's decent, but if I had it to do all over again I would have just bought another Ultra 5.

If anyone is waiting for the HPA to pass before they purchase a suppressor, you could be waiting a very, very, very, longgggggg time because it has little to no chance of actually passing. Also, if by some miracle the HPA were to pass, after you've purchased a can and sent your $200 in with your Form 4, the BATF will have to refund everyone's $200, all the way back to anyone who purchased a suppressor after Oct. 22 2015.

I'd be thrilled to get a $600 refund but I'd gladly waive my refund, I believe most others would too, if that means the HPA gets passed.

I am thinking about getting one , but I would want to use it on a 338-408 ? The gun would be tough to shoot without the brake. So I am wondering if they do anything to help the recoil? I like the help with the noise but wont trade it for the kick HaHa

This is a bit of a debated topic but it doesn't reduce recoil more than a brake. I think it's less recoil than shooting bare muzzle but muzzle brakes reduce more recoil than suppressors. I will say SiCo's Anchor Brake on the end of their cans actually works extremely extremely well.

For 338 there are lots of cans out there. Idk about 408 though that could make the search a bit harder.

Also B23 is spot on the HPA is very very unlikely to pass. I've been telling everyone since 41F if you want them go ahead and get them. Though i hate 41F and wish it would've be rescinded. The process hasn't gotten any faster as the ATF would've liked to claim 41F would help with instead they got 10,000 suppressors in a month before because guys didn't want to have to go through the hassles 41F introduced.
