Anybody running a suppressor?

I'll go ahead and third that. I killed a black bear with a shot between the shoulder blades with my suppressed 308 Win. while he was climbing vertically up a rock slide The sound of the impact was incredibly distinct, and of course watching the bear collapse in my scope was distinct too.

I have a hunter town arms Ti Chameleon. Decided to try it out on the 6.5 SS before hunting season but ended up hunting with a brake. It works great as far as sound suppression just didn't like the added recoil and length. I hunt by myself a lot and like being able to spot my own shots. I could with the suppressor also but it was much harder. I was looking forward to trying it on some bigger .30 cals but after seeing how the recoil was on my 6.5 I may just stick with brakes on bigger cartridges until I can try some different cans out on other rifles first hand.

CON- You will have to clean your rifle more often. My brass looks like it has soot on it.

I have absolutely no reason to doubt you, but honestly, I have been drooling over these kind's of posts for years trying to get myself talked into buying one, and have never heard of this problem. Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks,
Tod

In my gas guns, the brass is very dirty, but it's pretty dirty as is because of the DI system. In my bolt guns, I have absolutely no issue simply neck sizing brass after firing for several cycles before cleaning. I don't think my bolt gun brass is any dirtier after firing with the suppressor. Don't let some dirty brass dissuade you from the suppressor, that's what walnut is for.

good, might as well put 2 or 3 in jail while you're at it, because once you get the first one, you'll go buy at least 2 more.

I wish I would have ordered more when I went through the process a few years ago.

I've been hunting suppressed for 4 years now i think? Would never go back. Used to only shoot suppressed but in competition a brake is honestly more effective in recoil reduction and i'm not wild about the increased length. I have a TBAC 30CB9, SiCo Hybrid, and an Omega. Have recently switched to Area 419's hellfire system so i can rotate them between rifles.

The only cons to them are weight increase and length though weight is close to becoming nearly negligible.

TBAC is the gold standard, maybe 1/10th mil shift from TOMB to can and the best sound reduction per weight on the market.

I'd go with the Ultra 5 or 7. dBs are not really the end all be all, especially on a hunting rifle.. 99% of people cannot sit there and distinguish between a couple dB. The ear isn't that accurate. Yes i realize the db scale is logrhythmic but it's inherently difficult to tell the difference between my Omega and my 30CB9. With the omega at 6.5" or so and the 30CB9 at 9" at least on two 6.5x47s both switching from an 18" barrel to a 23" barrel. I will say the 6.5 SAUM is louder than those but i haven't shot the CB9 on it only the hybrid and Omega and it wasn't very distinguishable.

Another benefit of the can is the bullet hitting the animal is very audible without the loud boom ringing your ears. View attachment 87759
Your last point cannot be emphasized enough.

I would really like a suppressor, but I will not go through the governmental BS and cost to own one. Maybe in my lifetime they will become available as part of the Hearing Conservation act.

I have several suppressors, and my opinion is to start with the largest caliber you will be shooting, in my case it is .30. With the advancement of the "over the barrel "suppressors, if I get another one it will be that style ONLY because I like to hunt with a suppressor and it keeps my rifle from getting to long to carry in the woods & buck brush. I am a fan of direct thread, most of my rifles have a muzzle break anyway, so they are threaded 5/8". One down side is that the suppressor does change by point of impact, and I keep them mounted full time on my hunting rifle during hunting season for that reason.

I myself have two different magnum suppressors both by SilencerCo, Hybrid and the original Saker 7.62. I shoot both 300WM and 7mm without hearing protection comfortably.
My buddy also has the Hybrid and has shot it on his .338 Lapua and is very pleased with it and the fact that he can shoot without hearing protection.
Great thing about the Hybrid is you can run it on pistols (if you set up for it) as well as rifles up to .338 Lapua.
As several other people have mentioned, once you shoot with a suppressor you won't shoot without one.
I would say the cons are weight and length added to your rifle but other than that I cannot think of a single one!
I have several rimfire cans as well, DeadAir mask and SilencerCo Sparrow. Probably the most fun you can legally have!
From everything I hear silencer shop is a great option but they don't offer every brand. Might not hurt to check locally.
Good luck!
