6.5 SHERMAN MAX/156 BERGER

Thanks, highdrum. And you answered my next question on the action. :) đź‘Ť
I built my 6.5max on a Tikka, works awesome. I had a 7max built on a lone peak long action, feeding was very inconsistent. 3.2-3.4 is best got these long stretched short mags. Get too long of an action it's problematic too.

What about a Rem 700 long action?
It'll work but not ideal. Remingtons feed of the rails unless you add a centerfeed box. But the shortest cfe box for long action is 3.7". Detach bottom metal works great too as long as you get proper sized magazine. In my Tikka 6.5max, it's in an xlr Tikka long action chassis, using mdt mags that have 3.46 internal length, it feed pretty well, but isn't the smoothest. The best platform for a max would be defiance Xm, Tikka long action, savage axis as these all have max round length around 3.2-3.46" depending on magazine choice.

I have a 7 max being built on a long action Defiance anTI, with the Wyatt's 3.850" mag box as is standard for a defiance long action, so I could go to a larger cartridge eventually if wanted. I plan on attaching a synthetic material spacer at the rear of the mag box approximately .5" thick to bring the OAL down to 3.350", I am hoping that will make feeding smooth. My current plan is to drill two small holes through the rear of the magazine box and into the .5" spacer and attach it with superglue and a couple small 1/2" long screws, I think that should be secure, then shorten the follower as well. With the shortened OAL, I am hoping that will allow good feeding. We shall see!!

I have a 7 max, or currently a 7 Mega, built on a LA 700 BDL converted to a Cabelas Kwik Klip.
It says its for '06 and WM size but a quick spreading of the feed lips (about .020" and it feeds like butter! Flush fit 2 rounds and looks just like original BDL floor plate for $119
