Until it's not "surgically" placed……stuff happens! It can't hurt to have a slightly larger caliber cartridge using a quality bullet! Equally placed, quality bullets, with impact at the proper velocity…..the performance edge goes to the larger caliber cartridges! memtb

It's amazing how the lite caliber, folks get their panties in a wad because others think heaver is better. Maybe it's because one can't handle a magnum cartridge that it bothers them so. One can kill a elk with a rock if it's put in the right place. Ya ever stop to think maybe those asking can't put the bullet just where it needs to be. Maybe they can. But it seems if you gotta ask, you should just go bigger.

Have yet to see going bigger make someone shoot better. But I guess there's a first for everything.

And that is truly the crux of the issue. Larger harder recoiling rifles are usually shot much less due to cost per shot and recoil. Shooting less is not the recipe for accuracy or being competent/confident in one's ability with a weapon.

It's not the feeling the recoil when shooting at an animal that's the problem. It's your mind taking over and telling your body that you are going to get **** pounded by the gun because it knows that from practicing. You aren't getting away from that.

I think you can...I have a 10 year old grandson that shoots my 300 Ultra mag(Rem Sendro) off a bench...off a lead sled....my gun has a break on it and he shoots it well...3 in groups at 300... the weight of the gun in combination with the muzzle break these big guns are nothing like the old 300 win or 300 weatherby s of the past...without breaks and off of sand bags....or coats and blankets or packs...LOL...so I would say you need to practice with the same set up my 10 year old grandson uses....and hes not a big kid...after his very first shot he said hell grampa that wasn't that bad....oh ya my first 30 06 when I was 16 knocked the crap out of me...no muzzle break..and the stocks were garbage....but like I said in my first post my best friend sold his elk gun to get a 6.5PRC....because of recoil...

People kill them with a .243 Winchester. Heck, people kill them with a bow and arrow. I don't think you are limited to 30s and 33s. I think shoot your gun confidently (not to be confused with carelessly) and shoot good bullets. IMHO larger calibers can help with accidental marginal shots to a degree!

Did you read the title? He said is it enough for elk the answer is yes its enough for elk. We aren't debating if a magnum caliber performs better.
