30 NOSLER OR 300 PRC

Yeah. I was wondering if you switched to ADG from Nosler and getting 3100. I could with .225 reamer and H1000 but the Nosler brass was junk after 2 firings

My reamer is close to that and I'm not having brass issues. I will be testing the Bertram and ADG.

Bump because I want to build a 30 boomer.

From what I can find case capacity wise (water) we have:
300 win-94
30 Nosler-97
300 PRC- 97?
300 Norma -103.0
Norma Improved/RUM -110

I understand these vary by brass manufacturer.

My only limit is my suppressor is rated to 30-378, so I should have no issues with any of these it seems. The ability to use the 230 a tips at a useful velocity if I decide to would be cool, and possible keep me from wasting money on a 338&can down the road

The 300 WM has a shorter neck than the others so relative useful capacity is maybe 2 grains more

Norma/Nosler brass in 300 Win is the largest capacity at ~95 grains H2O
300 PRC Hornady is ~97 grains H2O(Bertram is much smaller)
30 Nosler Nosler brass is ~99 grains, Bertram is ~100 grains and ADG is ~101 grains
If you compiled the antidotal evidence available you will see that, while there will be overlap between the three cartridges, this will be the average with 215s and H1000 in a 26" barrel-

300 win 2900-3000fps
300prc 2950-3050 fps
30 nosler 3000-3100 fps

If performance is what you are after the 30 Nosler wins hands down. The 30 Nosler with ADG brass and N570 is going to approach RUM velocity with a fraction of the powder. I think the PRC is a huge disappointment. The 30 Nosler has become my favorite cartridge.

FWIW - for another reference point - 300 Weatherby case volume capacities that I measured. case filled to the top of the neck. the volumes have a small variance with different lots of brass, and a larger fired/neck sized variance with different rifles of the same make and model.
Nosler Brass new out of the box - 99.1 grains H2O
Nosler Brass Neck sized with a Lee Collet Die after firing in a factory Mark V Accumark - 102.5 grains H2O
Weatherby Brass Neck sized with a Lee Collet Die after firing in the same factory Mark V Accumark - 102.4 grains H2O

The WMS's hardly made a dent in the community of long magnum shooters. They weren't falling over themselves to change to the latest and greatest. It will take a lot for this new cartridge to knock the #1 selling magnum from its perch.

My latest 30 Nosler is a HCA barrel and Mike cut the chamber. You would need to get in touch with Mike at Hell's Canyon Armory.

Case capacities will change with manufacturer of brass, as well as if you weight sort your brass. What mainly comes of importance is the capacity for the bullet you choose. Even then stick powders and ball powders will settle much differently into the case. This is why when you check some powder companies web sites for recommended charge weights they will give you several different bullet manufacturers as well as different bullet types. Check out alliants web site. They often have 4-5 different bullet manufacturers and types listed. Companies such as Hornady or Nosler will just advertise their bullet options since they wouldn't want to advertise for the competition.
