Building a 22 creedmoor to optimize 88eld

Have you decided which contour you're going with? I'm assuming you're going Rokstok/rs1.2 and a 24-26" barrel so our guns will be near identical (other than mine having the bolt on the correct side). Curious what total weight you're shooting for. My current 22cm in the KRG Bravo is 9.3lbs loaded.
Pretty much identical 😂

I'm thinking taperless .750 at 25". Maybe fluted. Currently my 22" tikka profile is a little too light in an alterra with rs 1.2. I'd like the barrel to be right around 3lbs and wish I could do 26". Not so much about the velocity as getting the weight out there and keeping the blast farther away from my face.

Don't recall what my current weight is but there is a certain "feel" I'm going for with recoil impulse and I need another 6-10oz and longer barrel to get there.

OP, ever get ur build done? Just ordered an ace 219 bore 6gr 7.5tw, Smith with cut with an alpha 0.169fb reamer but will likely need to throat more for my 88gr eldm dummy. Gonna run at 20" suppressed. 3100 is my goal, I have rl26 and N560 if necessary.

Unless you plan on shooting allot past 700 yards. The 75gr ELD-M is the way to go. Velocity, BC and energy wise.i purchased a bunch of 88's. They have just sat since I worked up a load for the 75gr ELD-M's.

I am still waiting on parts for my build. The new Ramshot Grand looks like a winner according to hodgdons load data. Some of the lowest chamber pressures and highest velocity.

.219 bore and 5r are key to keeping bullets together at fast twist/high rpms in bore. The other is barrel length but that's sort of fixed for you because of your vel goal. If this is for hunting and you limit shooting to just the load de elopement and vel stabilization you should have a few yrs if not more before the throat gets rough enough to cause issues. Some guys on the hide that went with .219 5r were reporting over 1k without blow up. Not sure on the bullets but they were cup/core not monos. I think one was A-tips. You also should be shooting at a much slower rate and lower volume strings.

Some of the F-T/R .223 shooters moved to the .219 to shoot the A-tip and 95SMK. The prior for jacket integrity and the latter for la tad lower pressure to squeeze into th next higher node running those long 30-32"barrels.

Maybe? The 80eldm shoot fantastic in my 22gt, around 3300fps, and have a significant bc boost over the 75s. Mainly I just want the bullet mass. I like heavy for cal bullets, especially in the winds of eastern Montana where I do most my hunting.

I'm still shooting my current barrel out (rechambered tikka 22-250) but I need to order a blank soon for the next one.

I'm very interested to hear how that barrel does for you…considering going with ace for this one as well.

I also lucked into an 8lb jug of RL26..I'd really like to see 3200+ from a 24-26" barrel on the next one. I'm currently around 3100 at 22" but I get the occasional heavy bolt lift.

Hmmm interesting thoughts there. What're your velocity numbers with the 75gr vs 88gr? I'd be curious at what range the 88s take over.

I'm planning my next build, it'll be my 4th 22 creedmoor build. This is a long range deer rifle and I will build it around the 88eld which has performed well on deer sized game for me. I'd really like to see velocity in the 3200-3300fps range.

Previously I have been underwhelmed with top end velocity with these pills. 22-26" barrels and all the major brass manufactures with a variety of powders have failed to produce safe velocity over 3100ish FPS. Not really interested in other projectiles; I need the BC and terminal performance of the 88 for what this rifle will do.

Barrel will be 26", probably 1:8 twist which I have found to stabilize the 88s just fine
—any recommendations for a quality blank, .219 grooves and interested to hear results with various types of rifling

Brass—interested in necking down 6mm lapua. Have not been overly impressed with Peterson or alpha. This could have been falsely attributed to the brass, but curious what your guys experience is here

Chamber dimensions: previously had fairly short freebore with SAAMI reamers..curious what guys are using for the heavier/longer pills and if there is an ideal reamer spec out there.

Powders: h4350 seems too fast burning, n555 pretty close to ideal, never got the velocity with h4831sc or h1000. I do have a couple pounds of rl26 that I could try.

Any other thoughts or recommendations are appreciated.
Please keep us updated; and let us know how the build turns out.

Looking at the Berger Stability Calculator

The 88gr Hornady will have a "marginal" stability factor of 1.42 when firing the bullet at 3,200fps in a 7 twist. Ideally, you should have a factor of over 1.5. They estimate a 2% loss in potential stability with a 7 twist. That's not bad but using an 8 twist with the 88gr would result in a stability factor of 1.1 which is barely stable.
