Your favorite cartridge based off .30-06?

I have the 30-06 and the 270 and I want a 25-06.
To me, the original, 30-06 is perfect. Can't improve it. 30-06 AI shoult be called 30-06 AM. Ackley Modified. Not Ackley Improved. The "improved" is marketing...
and now let the fireworks begin

The only reason to A.I. anything is for reduced case stretch, change pressures, al making the case more efficient. Velocity gains are just a bonus

R-p brass is 72 to the neck, 78 full
Winchester Nickel is 77 full.
Fire form load is 66gr r22 with 168amax for just over 2900fps. Most of the groundhogs In the pics were fireforming shots.



My favorite standard cartridge on 06 case is probably 270. To me it's got a bit of reverence that most dont have. Like the 375 h&h, 470ne, and 222rem, theres a nostalgic appreciation that goes with the name. Growing up, most of the professional hunters and gun writers seemed to love the 270 and that stuck with me.

6.5/06 is my favorite offshoot of the excellent, reliable, and versatile 30/06. An old Winchester model 70 in 30/06 has taken the overwhelming majority of the game I've harvested over my lifetime followed by 6.5/06.

Probably 280 Remington then 270 Winchester and last 25-06 Remington in that order. Never been a fan of 30-06. But as some say will probably kill anything on the continent with proper bullet and shot placement.

I bought my first new rifle in 1977, I was 16 at the time, a model 70 in 30-06. I still have it; it's killed everything from crows to deer. I loaded 110 grain bullets for groundhogs and used federal 150gr soft points for deer, it's a hammer. If I hadn't had shoulder surgery requiring a lighter recoiling caliber it would still be my go-to rifle.

My nephew brought a 280 by for me to shoot many years ago, that was one of the hardest recoiling rifles I've ever shot.

My .30 Gibbs has 75.80g full. It currently propels the 190 Berger VLD at 2806 FPS using RL17 with more powder room.

30-06 and 35 Whelen. If I had to get rid of one, it would be the 30-06. If you told me I could only keep one, it would be the 30-06. Does that make sense?

Hard to pick a favorite for me. For a one gun battery it would hard for me to pass up the 30.06 but I'm just a 400 yard and under Whitetail hunter now. The mule deer days are gone.
Currently shooting the 30.06ai, 280rem, 280ai, and a 338/280ai.

.270 Winchester. Boringly efficient and effective, not Uber sexy looking ke some of the modern rounds, but doing the job with minimal fuss. Easy to load for, lots of accurate factory loads, flat shooting, what is there not to like?

..and cheap. Both in terms of ammo cost (and availability ... well normally) and cheap because the same rifle has been putting meat in the pot for 35 years LOL!

I like my 270 more than the .30-06. I like my .300 win mag more than either. I find the velocity window more useful in 270 .300 win than .30-06. The .30-06 is awesome, no doubt, I took my first deer with a .30-06 and am fond of it…but as much as it is a jack of many trades it is just as much a master of NONE!!! There, I said it! .

Yeah wasn't saying .300 win is my favourite off the -06 haha. This is that .240 wby all over again! But it is to say that case does it's best work with calibers other that .308" diameter.
