Yes sir, that is how I understand it as well. Although, there may be more to it as I can think of at least one premier 'smith that will not touch a barrel after nitriding; I wish I could remember what the reasoning was.

Yup, you need to have anything you nitride just the way you want it before the treatment. After that it is pretty much non workable. It might be possible to open up and tap mount holes with some hard bits but no rethreading or chambering or anything like that.

Picked 'em today and as soon as my Magnetospeed gets here, which I ordered from Midway, I am on my way to the range for some load work!

Rich, that is pretty much the sum of his issues, he just doesn't like to tear stuff up needlessly. It seems to be more of choice rather than ability. Several guys have posted that they dont care one way or another.... I can't remember what the Rockwell hardness goes up to.

Yeah, there is some brown crud (left over residue) in the bore that needs to be scrubbed out. Will be working on that tomorrow.

Mine had the brown crud that was difficult to remove too.

I have the v-2 Magspeed and love it. One problem I did have though was my 30/375 S.I. with the 4 port mussle break blew the buckle right off of the connecting strap........Rich

Ive Got a 338 Allen Mag XHS and the V2 has worked Very well on it. It goes over the big slab Muzzle Break and has never worked loose at all. I'll be looking into building a old M70 Win 30-06 into maybe a 6-06 Sherman Improved. Great thread on the 6.5. I have 6.5x284 and its been great. But would like more long range with the Matrix 160 and better velocity.

OK, you two have got my interest. What two or three articles or posts would you recommend to read as due diligence on the Sherman designs.
I am thinking 6.5mm Sherman as I have gone with the 6mm SLR with its one pass thru the die long (no turn)neck and (no fire forming) 30 degree shoulder in the 6mm.

From what Ive read and a few folks I know of in SW MT using Shermans, its the way to GO. Ive gotta get the details soon as a smith I have is available to start when I get a new long Lilja barrel for it.

All you have to do is run a .270 or .280 case into your 6.5 die just far enough to leave a stiff bolt closing for headspace, load and shoot. CR, Whidden makes the dies from the reamer print.
