If you like to mess around at your loading bench, give the 338 Hawk a look. That is if you are looking for a larger caliber than the '06. Pushes 225 gr TTSX's at about 2630 ft/sec. That will give you a round that matches the trajectory of a 180 gr '06, but will give you significantly more downrange energy.
This has been my favorite elk round for the past 20 years.

Your favorite cartridge based off .30-06?

I’m curious what everyone’s favorite cartridge is that’s based off the .30-06? But more importantly, why is that your favorite? Is it the .280 Rem? 338-06 because you hunt elk? .30-06 because that’s what you learned with? Just a friendly discussion that just might influence someone’s future build.
