Why shoot a sissy rifle?

My cousin bought a youth rifle for his son in 6.5 Creedmore. I've shot that rifle and believe me it's got a pop to it. It is very light which a lot of folks don't consider when picking a youth rifle. The kid refuses to shoot it. It also has an accu type trigger that cuts and bruises his finger during recoil.

Similarly, I hear people all the time say oh it's a 20 gauge, it doesn't kick. In a light pump, single barrel, or o/u it kicks plenty..

Most of us on here probably know enough to know that cartridge is only one factor in mitigating recoil. Though I may be giving some of us too much credit. Gun weight is a huge factor. Projectile weight plays a part. Muzzle brakes can help if you like them. But don't fall into the "it's a 6.5 CM, it doesn't kick" trap. In the right, or wrong package, it kicks plenty. Especially for a kid.

I've got a Franchi inertia semi auto in 20 gauge and at a little over 5 pounds with 3" it definitely has a kick to it! But I am a sissy

I shoot 12 gauge 7/8oz loads at 1150fps out of a 9lb O/U with an ISIS recoil reduction system. If you are a sissy I'm not sure what I would call me!

But yes Franchi and recoil do travel hand in hand. They've made some very light guns.

I'm trying 129gr ABLR's….maybe they will kick less! ….or I'll call PVA about a brake!

For clarity, my concern is not so much the tears 😭 generated, but just seeing my target in the scope after the shot!
I have APA Micro Bastards 4 or 5 rifles. They are 4 port side brakes with two rows of round threaded ports that are angled to each side. Actually made for AR's so you and adjust top ports to compensate for the push to left or right when shooting rapid fire. They still had 40% off sale going on yesterday. I have them on a 300 RUM, 300 WM, 7mm Rem mag and 257 Weatherby. They are all 9/16x 24. All are almost same diameter of barrel. Looks a lot cleaner. I'm about to put one on a 6.5x284 cause I have an extra one. They tame recoil enough that I can keep sight picture after shot. Virtually no upward recoil. I run with all top ports open.

Is sissy rifle limited to the 6.5CM? Yall have me worried I may have doubled down on sissy, with some of the other cartridges I shoot. 🙆‍♂️ 😅

I have way more "sissy" chambered rifles/hunting handguns than non.

Between my 6.5Creed, 260 Rem, 7-08 and 7-08AI, 7TCU (X3), 6X45, 223 (X2), 7-30W, 300BO, and 6.8SPC (X2), I believe I might have all the sissy bases covered.

I had to put my 338 Sherman Mega in another safe because it kept trying to beat up all the other rifles in its first one. My 300WM lives in a different closet to keep it from humping all of the other rifles in my main gun closet too.

Robert D Raeford was correct when he spoke of "The Chickification of America".
When I look at a military show, I don't think man I'd love to shoot that 223. It's more like I'd like to shoot the Boys 55 anti tank rifle, or a DShK heavy machine gun, or a Barrett 50. Maybe even a 20mm flak cannon or 40 Bofors. My testosterone level must be too high. I just can't help it. And I don't really like recoil. Maybe there is a HOTLINE i can call.

It kinda sounds like the 270 win is actually a girls rifle. That makes me feel better about my 6.5 creedmoor. 😁
There is no such thing as a "Girls Rifle." Girls can, and do shoot the same rifles boys do, but usually much more accurately. When sighting in our rifles this fall my girlfriend shooting A Tikka 30-06 and me a Remington 700 338 win mag some idiot came by and made the comment that, "Those don't sound like girls guns." I looked at him and said, "That is because there is no such thing as a girls gun. We shoot them all just like you do." Then I asked him, "What kind of Man gun did he shoot?" his reply was, "A, 243." Neither of us said anything, just started giggling. He packed up his gear and left.
