Why shoot a sissy rifle?

To be fair, don't most all critters drop in their tracks? Even if they run off after the shot? Except for maybe flying birds or small, lightweight vermin like Prairie Dogs which rarely drop where they were standing? šŸ˜„
Um, some critters like the T-rex don't make tracks. Kinda mystical you know. šŸ˜Ø You shoot at em when ya see em and then run fer yer life. No looking back. No time for the photo stuff. That's why there are no Sasquatch pics. That's the beauty of the Creed. It drops whatever you point it at, then all you gotta do is the running part. Run well my friends. And always take a fat man with you, 'cause all you gotta do is be able to run faster than at least one other guy...

Again, we are talking about normal people hunting with normal rifles. I understand this blog is called Long Range Hunting, but the 270 as well as the 6.8 Western kick the butt of the 6.5 CM all the way across the hay-field at normal long range hunting distances. To my humble way of thinking, no ethical hunter should shoot at any game animal beyond 300 yards, and never beyond 600 yards.

The chances of a first round fatal hit at longer ranges show diminishing returns as range increases. I don't know how many of you are familiar with the Backfire series on You Tube, https://www.youtube.com/backfire but in many of their shows, Jim shows the probability of a first round hit, mostly at ranges out to 600 yards is not all that good, and the few times the show, shooting out to 1000 shows the improbability of a first round hit all the time. The second point to make here is, in my humble opinion, hunting ends and execution begins, probably at around 400 yards. Beyond that, the animal does not know that you are there, and thus it is no longer hunting but mostly attempted murder of a game animal.

I would like to say, without any disrespect or argumentative conversation towards you, that I watched a guy in Colorado shoot in 100 yard increments out to 2000 yards one shot one hit. I have a range at home I shoot regularly out to a mile. My longest shot so far is 700 yards at a whitetail. One shot no step dead. I would say not the normal guy should do this. But with lots of practice it really is doable. Having your own range really helps also reading wind knowing distance and knowing deer movement. My 700 yard shot was 5 feet from 700 yard plate.
Anyway thanks for your input and thanks to you all that served to let me be able to enjoy doing this!

After back surgery I had to give up the 10 gauge. I was sad about it..... Till I got a 12 gauge with the 3" TSS. AMAZING!!! Yes lots of people around here use the 410 with TSS. I'm healthy enough for the 12 for now and super happy with it. But I can see the 410 let me turkey hunt as I get older. We will have to talk turkey sometime birddog-68. I recently got on a lease in Pa.
check out a 28ga, on a 28ga frame preferably, love em. modern ammo had lots of guys hunting ducks and pheasant with them no problems

way better shot column than 410 and that tss in even a 7 shot decimates turkey
