Not gonna win this argument.
If you watch king of 2 miles and other lr shooting videos/competitions, another consideration is spotting your misses. A 6.5 has a smaller trail and very small bullet splash compared to a 30, 338, or bigger bullet. And also, while some people may, most people don't use factory ammo. Throw a high bc solid in a .338 specifically for ELR, and it really walks away from the smaller diameter bullets. Throw a 285 Badlands ICBM-2 in an 8 twist .338 Lapua, and the G1 bc if 1.010 will provide some impressive ballistics. And if you only have a 9.3 or 9.5 twist, the 255 will be screaming fast, and has a .845 G1, and will still outrun a 6.5 anything.Well.... not wanting to be argumentative and I appreciate everyone's thoughts. I just want to consider the real numbers and I do want to hear everyone's thoughts and opinions.
I fully understand the caliber's weaknesses and know full well that it isn't the best solution for ELR. I already own the gun, so I get to live with it and honestly would buy it again, if I had a DO OVER. Small cartridges that give adequate ballistics and minimize recoil are a priority with me, mainly for 3-4 hours of range shooting. One shot kills with big recoil don't bother me.
I just ran the ballistics again to consider a 15mph cross-wind at 5,000 feet elevation, 30% humidity.
6.5 PRC = 325" (147 gr ELD® Match)
300 PRC = 294" (225 gr ELD® Match)
338 Lapua = 298" (285 gr ELD® Match)
That's a wind drift adjustment difference of 25' vs 27'.

Got you there!
Sometimes there a tools in the tool box that are just better at tackling the task at hand. Can you do it. Of course! Guys use a 300 BLK at a mile. Is it ideal and the right tool? Yes and no. If it's the only gun you have then run it! I shoot a mile with a SAUM all day everyday. Doesn't beat me up like my 300 PRC, Norma or .338 Norma.. cheaper to shoot.
That's great that you have (4) cycles.I've always been one that believed there are "best tools for the job".... and yeah, that is why I own 4 motorcycles.
1. Enduro Race Bike
2. Off-Road Touring
3. Adventure Bike
4. Long range Tourer
For guns... I just can't do #4..... too much recoil, for 3-4 hours of shooting.
Where's this at.CO BigJohn
You can hit the Mile with you 6.5PRC with a little TLC no problem! Brass-Load-Bullet-Barrel-Optics-SHOOTER!
Seen several 6.5s hit that mark, also saw a 6mm hit 1 mile.
Hopefully we will be going to the "ARENA" in SE Georgia sometime soon and putting our 6.5X284 along with 338LMAI to the test. There are targets out to 2,500 yds.
CAN'T WAIT!!!
