It's just what they do consistently and have for decades. The last time they really got one right was when they rolled out the 7mmRM. There were thousands of rifles and millions of rounds already on the shelves when the gun writers and sporting show hosts started talking about what a wonderful round it was. It's actually crazy that Remington screwed it up so bad. It really should have been the most popular offering for a basic deer rifle. Remington sometimes I just have to shake my head.
Winchester screwed up just as bad I think with the .300WM which is actually a significantly better round but in the days before efficient muzzle brakes and affordable/legal suppressors it quickly got a bad reputation for heavy recoil.
