Personally the 30-06 is one of my favorites, hard hitting as well as accurate. One cannot blame the 30-06 for ignorance. Yes it does have a pretty good wallop so one would think that knowing this Daddy or Grandpa would not hand a 12 year old a 30-06. Unfortunately that is not so. I am a Hunter Safety Instructor and it is surprising how many parents and grandparents do just that. The thought process which is obviously flawed is that either the rifle is a hand me down from grandpa or I want to buy the kid a rifle he/she will be able to shoot for life. Instead give them something to start out with that is accurate and a good choice for the game one is going to be hunting. My son started out with a .243 and worked his way up from there. I do totally agree about anything Creedmoor or just about anything else that is hyped. Stick to the basics. They have been around for a long time and will still be around for many more decades simply because they do the job and do it well. Looking over my shoulder back over more years than I care to think about how many of the new super wildcats that were hyped were famous, then died off much like the 6.5 Creedmoor is starting to do. Lots of them on the used gun racks these days.30-06. Heard so many kids when I was growing up and even now that had to get a 30-06 to hunt deer just like their dad. It's like you have to have a 30-06 to be a man. Saw fathers give their young son a 30-06 at the range and after they shot it, they didn't want to shoot anymore.
Also all the Creedmoors. Hornady just copied all past good cartridges.
Love too many cartridges to list.
300 WM and 7RM can both be real performers with faster twist barrels and longer freebore. Mag feeding can be come a problem with long bullets.I love my .300 Winnie and, as articulated earlier, the 7mm rem mag is a turd haha.
But worse than any of those are the monster 6.5s. Everyone and their dog has a problem with the 6.5 creed, it's low hanging lazy fruit to hate it…but what I don't see is the appeal of the 26 Nosler and the 6.5-300 wby. The 27s and 28s just plain outperform then (compare the 270 wby to the 6.5-300 and you'll see what I'm getting at)
This phone has that auto erection feature that changes every other word.
This particular .460 WBY was owned by movie star William Holden. My brother bought it at an auction. We wrote to him and he provided a letter with what African game he took with the rifle. I say he must've been a hardy individual like the heroes he portrays in the movies, because when I shot it it gave me a headache! It was EDM barrel ported too.I have never had
the opportunity to shoot a 460 , But I have heard they are brutal, no thanks !!
That old pre-64 Winnie still has some wood in the stock there I see. This phone has that auto erection feature that changes every other word
I had really thought about buying one when I was seeing ammo going cheap. I didn't realize they were difficult to load for. I have since calmed down on wanting this cal. I don't see the cheap ammo anymore. And now hearing it's hard to load for has dampened my wants even more..224 Valkyrie……I've made some awesome hits on targets but to reload it is a hair pulling experience!! Not to mention the federal fiasco about the bullets used, the reamers, the rifling twist……my god this thing looked great on paper but in the field it CAN be a nightmare. This is all with a bolt action……hate to say all the negative things I've seen in a gas gun!
On the bright side it made me a better reloader being a difficult ***** to reload for!
