I don't have it any more- but my pre war model 70 in .300 H&H. Before the barrel shot out was absolutely reliable. 200 grain Accubond @ 2900fps, Mcmillan stock, any number of scopes. Just said .300 magnum on the barrel from back in the days there was just one. Replaced the barrel with a Krieger in .338 RUM, and it does everything it's supposed to, but it lacks something. The safe looks empty without a .300 H&H, and I've been looking at Ruger # 1's. Nostalgia I suppose.gun)

My favorite is one of my NM Springfield M1As with 168 gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips, then a Rem M700 Milspec 5R .308 with Sierra 165 gr. SBT, and for long ranges over clearcuts or rye grass fields, Rem M700 Milspec 5R .300WM with Berger 168 VLD.

.257 Roberts in a pre 64 Model 70, Leupold VXIII 2.5-8X32MM, 80 grain Barnes Tipped TSX's at 3340 FPS.

Second, .264 Win Mag, also in a pre 64 Model 70, Leupold VX3, 2.5-8X32MM Boone and Crockett, 120 grain Barnes TSX at 3480 FPS.

Have use the Roberts since 1984 and the .264 since 1995. Both very reliable and comfortable to shoot and load for.

I have 3 rifles that work fine for deer (Browning X-bolt 300 win mag, Marlin 336 30-30 and Rem. 700 25-06). All three work fine, but my favorite for deer is the Rem 700 25-06. However the 30-30 is a sweet brush gun.

Every deer and hog I have shot with my 700 CDL 30-06 with 150 Hornady SST's hasn't taken a single step. 4 Deer and countless hogs. I have dubbed this rifle "Thor" because it puts the hand of the gods on everything I aim it at.

A Winchester Model 70XTR in .30/06 that I bought at the Marine Corps PX at Camp LeJeune, NC in 1981.

It wore an inexpensive Bushnell 3-9x 32mm Sportview scope up until a few years ago. The scope never once gave me an issue, even after my brother dropped the rifle and it landed on the top turret. I still have the scope, but its on a Marlin 882 .22mag rifle.

The Winchester now wears a Bushnell 3-9x 3200 series scope. The rifle still shoots 1moa or better.

My Remington Model Seven in .308 Winchester using handloads of Barnes 168gr BTHP VLC. It's right at 7lbs with a 1.5-6 X 32 Simmons Whitetail Expedition(AETEC) scope and Leupold base and rings. I bought it new in 1995, so it has the 18 1/2" bbl and nice walnut stock. I've made shots from 30yds in the brush to 200yds in the open field. And my arms never get tired. The only negative is the recoil.

As we all know shot placement and type bullets have much more to do with lethal kills than the rifle. We don't like to acknowledge that because we love playing with different rifles.

Tikka T3 lite, .270WSM, pushing 110gr Barnes TSXT with RL19. Nikon Monarch 4-16x44 w/BDCgun)This will be my 2nd season with it, beats the snot out of the close out Model 70 I bought at walmart 10 years earlier for $175.

mine used to be a 30 cal---30-06 but i fell in love with my 25-06. made one on a remington action and have a savage. 85 gr Noslers and H4831sc, 100 gr Noslers B/T with H4350 and now Berger 115 gr VLD with H4831sc. this covers almost everything i shoot. What ever you shoot---- enjoy---- Bear.
