For the win in my book!!Only one rifle to pick from so how ever far I decide to shoot, it's my pick lol. Never weighed it with a sling and ammo 6.5 Prc but rifle with scope is 7lbs. 11oz. Per Dallas of LPR. View attachment 456380
That's the truthThis thread is going to drain some bank accounts after they see some of these rigs and the weight.
7mm RUM
Well for me it works and worked!!! Got my Elk with it @737 this past Oct. Not a burden to carry and shoots sub moa out to 800 with 140 Berger VLDH. Typical for a LPR rifle even being 7lbs 11oz.For the win in my book!!
I have one rifle that is 12.75 lbs and I only care to pack it from the truck to the bench. Thought about driving to a landing somewhere and setup an overwatch with shooting bench and beach umbrella. Ain't packing that beast anywhere.
That bull fits that rifle, what a brute!!Attached is a photo of my heavy long range rifle (along with my cattle dog Dakota that just had to be in the photo). It is a 338 CheyTac Improved (ie, 338 SnipeTac) with a 30" Brux 9.5 twist barrel on a Stiller TAC 408 action in a (highly modified) McMillan stock and with a Nightforce 8-32 NXS scope. It weighs in right near 16# and is in my avatar picture with my 1050 yard elk. It is a bit heavy but it really works for long range hunting where a long shot may be the norm.
Well the lightest is about 9.0- 9.5 lbs, heaviest I will carry is about 11.9 lbs. I try to stay under 11 but will go lighter as stock technology and actions are getting lighter. At my age need to ensure the one/ two shot at distance as I really don't want to track the game without a well placed shot. I ensure what I can hit with my equipment at what range I am proficient at. But the improvements in bullets, barrels and optic, stocks has made this more doable now then ever before as far as long range hunting. For rifles built to take game over 600, what are they finishing at?
All up, scoped, with a full magazine/box. As you carry it in the field.
This is for rifles built to talk game at long range, not for 3-400 yard game rifles. Pictures are welcome
