VIDEO... Charging Bear Pistol Test

I believe a victim to be is suppose to hit the dirt, face down so that the bear does not tear up your body's frontal parts... especially your face and throat... so... while it is working over your top side... you can be holding the semi in one hand behind your head, while emptying the clip into it's throat-face area.... which should turn it into an instant bear rug upon your back.... kinda like in the movie... The Revenant. If he had pulled out a semi the moment he saw those cubs... the ending would have been way way different. Just watch that scene again with a semi in his hands.
That was a great movie. I think if a bear wanted your frontal area to knaw on it would roll you over like a rag doll. All I'm referring to are griz. I hardly ever see a black bear around here. I think the griz eat/kill them. In the Bighorn's up by Sheridan there's lots of black bear. No griz or wolves there. Yet...

Did you see or read about the Todd Orr attack? It's exactly what he did, twice and he was able to get away. He didn't shoot the bear, but he was able to protect his head and neck to diminish the amount of damage to his vitals.

A semi auto 10mm just has to be a part of everyone's protection no matter what, because even if your big bore rifle or handgun didn't do their job during the initial attack, then you can still empty the 15 round mag into the bear with a one handed grip while it's trying to claw and bite you body parts.... you surely couldn't miss at that close range. You can do a lot of shooting during those seconds of remaining life. If those 15 rounds didn't stop it... then you could simply say... Yes, Lord, I did my best... here I come.
It's almost an argument for the revolver. If you come to the point where you're shoving the pistol into a bear that's on top of you the chances that you're pushing a semi-auto out of batter is high but a revolver's cylinder is still going to rotate. Personally I'd still rather have 15 rounds in semi-auto than 6 in a wheel gun. Hopefully I'm with a buddy and he has something too. It's funny I say that because I happened to carry my 10mm when I was with a buddy carrying a 357 revolver and my 44 Mag when I was with my brother in-law with a 10mm Glock.

I remember the name but don't remember reading about it ? Mt. man got Killed by griz about month or so ago. Shed hunting. Had a wife and two children. He was with another guy but they split up. The other guy couldn't find him when leaving. Search and rescue , helicopter, etc. Found him next day. Griz killed him. Not much detail. Probably ate on him. Didn't say if he had pistol or bear spray . Couple attacks in Park so far also.

I'm going to get a Glock 20 10mm... 15 rounds and the safety is quickly disengaged with the trigger pull. The safety being in the trigger is what sold me. I sure didn't want to be fumbling with a safety during a panic attack.

Here is Allen again with his charging bear and Desert Eagle Buddy.

That was good. I wouldn't carry that pistol though. Also don't like having to mess with safety. I'd leave it off or carry a pistol with out one. I'm not a 10mm supporter . I have two of them . I'm more a 45 guy I think. Have five 😳 I'm not going to carry a 45 first choice though. I but he would of got more rounds off with a 10mm because of lower recoil and no safety. Thanks for the video ! 👍🏻

There was another one a while back. I think that guy was fishing. A grizzly had a food cache near by and got attacked. The guy ended up in the cache and that bear tried to charge S&R too. I think he had bear spray at least, it was a little too early in the year for the visitors.

Look up Todd Orr, his story has been well documented. He survived and was able to cover everything, he got chewed on pretty good.

Its good to see direct comparasons but there is no real way to test or know exactly--- the pistols and rifles where he only gets 1 or 2 shots off could be your death-- he knew what was going to happen and was fully prepared and ready to fire---- had that been a real charging bear in the woods or comming from a close tree line he may have never gotten a shot off... especially with the rifles as he was basicly holding them "at the ready"--- I'd like to see one with the long guns "slung" over his shoulder
Also with the bear bounding the head is also moving up and down and a harder target. I carry bear spray like the Alaska DNR recommends. When I was in Alaska the spray wasn't in a holster it was in my hand 90% of the time, or VERY near by.

Up in Alaska they say to file the front sight and ramp down smooth on a handgun so when that grizzly puts it up your hind parts it wont hurt so bad. you would be extremely lucky to stop a grizzly with a handgun in a charge.
I had an 'ol time Alaska guide tell me the same thing.
After dropping a bull moose with it, I never heard anything about it again.
I'm not comparing shooting a standing moose with a charging bear.
Just responding to above post.

Early 70s when my Uncle sent me to NW tip of Alaska to keep an eye on Ivan across the Bering Straight, we had a husky that lived with us. In the summer he ran point whenever we went out. I heard later on after I rotated out he stood his ground between the guys and a Polar.

Back then besides the long guns, we either carried a 41 or a 44 Ruger. They were 75 bucks ordered through the PX.

I'd think you would want to be curled up in a fetal position protecting your sensitive parts by that time lol.

I will do . There was a father and son, son was in 30's bow elk hunting year ago. I think around 2007 ? They only had bows. A sow griz attacked the son. Bear on top. Dad had a recurve if I remember correctly. He shot an arrow at griz. Hit it in neck I think. Bear got off him and died near by. The follow year saw the euro of skull a taxidermist buddy did on it. I don't remember it the guy that got attacked got to keep it or F&G claimed it. I'll have to ask him. The son got tore up some. Face also. They walked out. Legal here to carry a sidearm while bowhunting. I'd sure do it..legal in Ca. also if you can believe it. To many of the state protected Mtn. Lion I guess. A lot of black bears also !
