Teaching kids how to look through the scope and understand the reticle.

How did you combat the cross eye dominance? My son is left eye dominant but is definitely right handed. I thought a costume pirate eye patch might help. Keep it fun haha.
Every case is different, but I've taught people to shoot with either hand and either eye. But if you son struggles using his right eye then I'd suggest taking your time and teaching you son to shoot left handed. Some of my students shot more accurately with their "non dominant" hand. This is because they understood the fundamentals of shooting and concentrated harder on those techniques when shooting with their "non dominant" or "support" hand.

I should probably stay out of this, but I have a friend that was a fair shot with a bow. One day while shooting a 3D shoot,I noticed him struggling. I did the old dominant eye test on him and he was left eye dominant. Got him to try a left hand bow and in a few weeks he was kicking my butt.

I have retrained a lot of people who were taught to shoot with their non-dominant eye. My suggestion, teach him to shoot left handed from the get go. He will be a FAR better shot than fighting the cross-eye dominance. This will be particularly noticeable when shooting moving targets and using a shotgun for clays or birds.

Should have read the previous two posts, I obviously agree with them.

I sat with my youngest at 3.5years old. We looked at magazines with deer. I drew a picture of what it will look like and how and where to aim crosshairs. After going through the magazines and he was able to show me where to aim and draw what the crosshairs would look like. We set up a 300blk subsonic suppressed and he started banging steel off a tripod fist shot. Eye relief he struggled to get right sometimes but he has zero issues with where to aim. We even do African game. So it's fun at the same time.

Close one eye. My brother has the same issue, but is an excellent shot with rifle and pistol.
Closing one eye means you have zero depth perception and a tough time tracking anything that is moving. Try shooting moving targets with a pistol, rifle or shotgun with one eye closed. Even just try backing your car up using the mirrors with one eye closed.
