I shot a whitetail with a 500 Jeffrey and I shot 4 last year with a 470 Nitro express testing rounds for a trip to Africa. Ha ha. Use the 270's. I'm all about the experimenting. I can tell you a 500 grain hornady soft will kill a whitetail with authority. I even shot one with a 460 weatherby once

Old thread, but I see it's still active. I built a 23" barreled 338 RUM last year. I got 3200 FPS with the Apex Afterburner and R26. Will try load development this fall with the 210 Hammer HHT.
