New scope

What's wrong with a scope with the interior lenses made of plastic instead of glass. For years people have been using plastic in glasses. I think some plastic is so tough it is bullet proof.

just a quick google search says
"Key points about acrylic:
  • High optical clarity: Acrylic has a refractive index very close to glass, allowing light to pass through with minimal distortion. "

IMO, using 1 lens in a pair of glasses is way different than using multiple lenses in a rifle scope. This is where "close or minimal" just isn't good enough.

People here pay huge sums of money for the very best German glass. Schott glass is supposed to be the best made. Unless someone knows of better glass the Germans still have the best. Leupold and Sig have improved greatly, and the VX 6 Gen 2 is rated closer to German made than ever.

My guess is that its going to be a good long time before any acrylic closes the gap.

Think the optics thoughts guy did a podcast or video on this a couple years ago. Guess there are some plastics that are as good if not better than glass, but they are currently cost prohibitive.
