Sherman light (not for drinking)

I'd agree with those numbers Rich. I'm getting 3070 fps with my 24" barrel on my 270 ss and 165 matrix . This load just has the slightest extractor mark but with norma brass being soft I think it's a good combo of speed and brass life. I'd guess when I maxed these out I was probably hitting around 3250fps or so. If the weather cooperates before I leave for xmas I'll get ot testing the 170's I have loaded for seating depth testing.

What's your elevation?? that's a pretty good number from such a small pkg

Could u buy a 270 short mag and have the factory barrel setback and rechambered to a 270 ss mag?

The hardest part of that will be the neck diameter of the 270wsm chamber. WSM brass is pretty thick in the neck so if the SS neck diameter is smaller the barrel would have to be set back far enough to clean up the old neck. In addition the WSM is longer so you'd have to set the whole thing back over .400" most likely. At that point your best off to just cut all the threads off and start over. That means .700"+ depending on the manufacturer. Most factory barrels don't have enough flat to do a whole shank set back and end up with enough shoulder to butt up against the action.

Thanks for chiming in! I was going to mention the shank length, but forget about the neck diameter......Rich

I ordered a barrel in .270 too. I can't decide if I want to do the original plan or do a SS. I've got months to decide though.
