Sherman light (not for drinking)

It would just be conjecture at this point, dont want to say anything until I have some in hand.

Maybe this has been answered but how does the 270 ss compare with the wsm or other 270 cartridges or is the benefit more in barrel life. I am very intrested in the Sherman shorts and would like info to pick one for my next build.

The 270 is pretty new but the 6.5 and 7 SS have been out for a while now. The 6.5 will reach 3300' with 140's and 3100' with 160's and the 7 will top out at 3070' with 180's and about 3200' with 168's. If you do the math with the 270 being right in between, I think it stacks up pretty well. Both of the above have 26" barrels......Rich

So the 7ss surpasses my lrm which has been topping out around 3000 with 180 72 gr h1000. In a 28 inch barrel. So in a 24 inch barrel it would top out around 2900? Is there a particular reason u picked the 270 to build on the lightweight setup cause I would love to build one similar but my shots would vary 20 yard to 800 so bullet selection to perform at these distances

I think the MAIN reason that I picked the 270 was because I don't have a 270:D. Having said that though, with the 270 bullets that are now coming out, when you run the #'s, a 270 is pretty hard to beat. I would not be at all concerned about bullet selection from 20-800 yards. The 165 Matrix, for example, is a proven bullet to that range and probably beyond. I am surprised the LRM won't turn up more velocity than that. The SS case is considerably smaller, and obviously more efficient! .......Rich

So with the hearing of poor feeding issues with the short mags I would think the Sherman short is not exempt. Have you found a action that feeds reliebly and smoother than most. How will the lone peak compare in that respect. I may wait to see your results with this build before I start mine. But the ti action has my interest or maybe a tikka action for smoothness. Thanks for insight.

Kyle.....My 6.5 SS is built on a 700 SA with an AICS box and my 7 SS is on a 16 Savage. Both feed nicely. I do not know about the Lone peak yet, but it will have a Wyatt I am thinking........Rich

Rich,
Are you going with the Integral lug and Rail?

I just ordered a Lone Peak S/S short action with Integral lug and rail for 6.5SS. It will be single shot, no mag. We are also skeletonizing the action. Meaning, we are cutting center section of rail out reducing weight. Very similar to Defiance Deviant Ultralight action. Having bolt Nitrided as well.
Deviant Ultralight Rifle Action | Defiance Machine

This would lighten your TI action even more

We are going just the opposite of your lite build.
Lone Peak S/S action single shot
Manners T5A Carbon filled, adjustable cheek piece
30" Krieger, fluted in a heavy Palma contour. Barrel will be Nitrided after break in.
Timney or Jewell trigger
NF 5-25 MoarT

No, I got the std. one because I was going for a light pack rifle. Your SS will SMOKE with that 30" barrel! Looks like you decided on the Palma instead of the Sendero........Rich

Yea, rifle will be a little heavy but still about 4-5 lighter than what I shoot now.

I am big 270 fan and you are making me wonder if I should switch gear now:)

I am sending the loaded round in to JGS tomorrow to get the reamer built. This is the SS with the new 170 Berger EOL loaded to the lands.
