Sherman light (not for drinking)

Why don't we hear of Matrix bullets failing to expand? Do they have a larger diameter meplat? Or just not as many in use?

All I've heard is they may open a touch to easy, Broz killed god know how many elk with them this season and they aren't exiting till they get some range which is about perfect.

I was a hard sell myself, and I won't challenge any one with a different experience, all the pictures, and hard data Broz has acquired can't be easily washed away.

Being a person that doesn't kill a truck load of game, I get how a bad experience can affect your equipment choices. For myself I would consider a bad experience with Berger at this point atypical.

The reports of bad performance are not to be ignored or discounted either.

Actually, their meplat in some instances, is a few thou smaller. I know the jackets are pretty thin in the ones I have used, but so are the Bergers. Some of the Matrix have lead closer to the tip, and some do not. I have had no problems with the 150 Matrix so far, but have not shot anything WAY out there either, sad to say! I have not noticed ANY of the Matrix in the 150's yet that have a closed hollow point, and I have shot hundreds of them. I guess my answer to your question is, I don't have an answer:D....Rich

Let's not turn this into another BULLET thread, I can see it easily headed that way. My bad:D

Yep...I agree Rich, if it doesn't get stopped now, it will be that way in a matter of a few posts.

If someone wants to gripe about bullets, they need to go do it in another thread.

Very good thread and i am a 270 fan. So i have to ask what is the 270 SS?

There is a lot written on the forum on the 6.5 and 7 SS and the 270 is built on the same case. In short, it is a shortened saum case with the taper blown out, shoulder sharpened, and a longer neck. It will cycle thru a std. short action with the long bullets and outperform the saum 3300' with 140's and 3100' with 160's in a 26" barrel. You can pm me if you want more info......Rich

One more decision made on the build. I am going to go with the 270. I plan on shooting the 165 Matrix and the 170 Berger. I gave in a little on the length and am going with a 23" #3 Brux, cm fluted, 8.5 twist. I went with cm because it will be cerakoted anyway. Brux says barrel will be here in 6-8 weeks MAX. I figure a 23" barrel will give me 3000' easily without overworking my brass. I will be able to use my 7SS dies and just bush them down .007"......Rich

Should be a great rig!
Keep us in the loop on the build and results.

Rich what elevation you at? I took the plunge and have some new dies coming to bring back the 175s with some wild profile but they'll be 1.550 long, I wont even suggest a BC, but it should impress.
