Powder-what is a good price?

So what is a good price? What is the "new norm"? The other day I stopped at a local gun store and couldn't believe my eyes! They had Varget, something I have been looking for for a year or more, at $46.95/lb. Does anyone think this is to high? or the new norm? One pound limit, but that's all I really needed.
If you need it, buy it !! If you are buying it "In store" you are saving Shipping and HASMAT

I don't see it going back down under $45ish for the 1# bottles of Hodgdon rifle powders we all like so much, and why would it? Everyone involved in the distribution and sale of powder now knows how much we will pay for it and how fast we will pay the new price when we see it available. VV will be a little higher. Alliant will be similar to Hodgdon for the Reloder series and probably higher for 26 and 33 if we even see it again anytime soon. I am surprised that the Ramshot powders haven't gone up as much as the others yet.
LGS has 33 think it was $56

My LGS hasn't seen RL33 in almost 2 years, sad to say I would but I would buy all I could get at $56 per pound if I saw it in stock somewhere........

None of the stores around here ever have reloading items. They have an auction company here, that you will see some items for bid, but people around here are paying much more than any of the stated prices. Ridiculous! You wouldn't believe!
Where are you located?

I undestand that when powder is made, huge amounts in that lot are produced, in the 1,000's of pounds. Demand rapidly depletes production. My guess is that when demand slows down more different lots of powder will be produced and remnants of existing lots will be availble & prices will fall. To my best knowldge extruded powder is not made in the USA. At the present time I'm shooting StaBall, Hunter, Magnum, CFE223, AA2230, AA2460 - all ball powders. Cost $31- $35 per pound.

Targetsprotsusa is showing primers right now, only 12 cents each, shipped...

$45 to $49 a pound is the going rate in Northern California. I worked the math up on first reloads with newly purchased brass and my cost for a premium bullet with a gold match primer by today's cost for a 308 win is $2.97. So I better really love those reloads or I might as well buy factory. Of course if you shoot the same brass 10 times that price is going to come down to $1.97. But after your time and effort is all put in we really can't produce a "box of shells" anymore for less $$ than the factory.

For gun powder check on line GRICES GUN SHOP CLEARFIELD PA . Their sales flyer page 51 has gunpowder listed $ 40+ a pound . NO PRIMERS G00D LUCK HOPE THEY HAVE SOME LEFT.

I thought the demand would have lightened up a little by now...doesn't seem to be the case. In this enviroment one can't quibble about price, it's going to sell whether you buy it or not.
Yup. Supply and demand. The capitalistic principles we embrace do sting sometimes…still glad it's not the alternative.

Just picked up 2 lb of Retumbo for $48 a piece they had 4350 for $45 and some other like Enforcer for around $40 at my lgs

50 to 55 may be the new norm. I doubt we will see the 30-35 pricing point again. Too bad. I saw primers today online for 600 per 5k. ***
