Pig hunting with knife and dogs

Reminds me of the several nights we spent in tree stands waiting for hogs, nada. Next night stayed home, they tore up 30 acres of corn, took a dozer to fix it, so a tractor could get on the field. Three of us were standing there discussing the merits napam when two high rise PUs from down Tampa way pulled up. We are looking for a place to hunt hogs, we have great dogs, best catch dog in the world, Yada, Yada. So Earl, 6'6" and 400 pounds, a bear of a man, owner of the property, 3 full sections, says I would be willing to try you guys out, but Do Not shoot one of my Angus cows. Oh no sir, we let the catch dog bring them down then we jump on them, tie them up, etc., etc.

So they drive across the pasture and around the corner of a ti, ti head. After about 10-15 minutes we hear bang. Then here come the PUs. They drive up and stop, 500 pound boar on the dog box, he has feet the size of a big juice can about 6 in. Group leader says, I shot that boar, stopped and let my catch dog out, he ran for the boar and that hog killed him right on the spot, Earl says hum; Sorry bout your dog. They then drive the 8 hours back to Tampa after a real short hunt.

We then helped Earl bait his 9 hog traps made of steel PSP landing mats. I do not mess with hogs, shoot them on sight with a 358 AR and bury them with my tractor. That does not cost me a $2,500 catch dog.

That's the risk of using dogs. Mine have vests but sometimes they get hooked and need a few staples. Like coon dogs getting hit on the road/or stolen there is a risk involved.

The catch dogs had vests also . But giving credit to the dogs once they latched on to the pigs ears they weren't letting go. My wife's pig was big enough to flip them over and rip open there hind quarters and yet those dogs never let go!

No hogs were harmed in the making of these photos. All hogs are tied up alive.
