New Remington 700's

What did Remington say when you contacted them?
So far customer service has been nice. Sent rifle back to them, still waiting for an update from them or the rifle coming back to me to see how it was handled from there. No updates thus far, it's been a few weeks. Just giving my opinion of the quality control issues for new rifles coming out. I wasn't pleased or impressed. Had some others comment on the thread that had some good things to say about the new ones and some bad… overall I'm under the impression the problems persist

I could be wrong, but I was under the impression that Savage function tests their guns. SOMEBODY must be test firing them because they show signs of being fired out of the box.
Remington proof test them, with a couple of proof loads, and stamps the proof tested seal on the Remington barrel. Doubt if any further testing is done.

Anyone hearing anything?
While at a local LGS I saw a couple of new Remington 700's and asked the salesman if he was hearing any good things about them
He said they are better than the last several years of 700's as Remington had money problems so they were running older worn out machines for so long and now they are running new better machines and putting out better rifles.
That may be sales talk so what have you folks heard?
Bought a new 700 Long Range in 30-06 this winter. QC looks fine, gun is accurate.
Only fix for the horrible trigger is the garbage

Yea I have several friends that shoot top end savage rifles and swear by them.
The Model 12 LRPV is an absolute tank of a gun. Haven`t weighed it but it`s got to be 12-13 lbs all up. Savage markets it as a varmint rifle, but it`s a bench gun in an HS Precision hunting stock. Very rigid. VERY accurate. Barrel is a fluted 1" SS truck axle! I don`t do it justice and since I don`t hand load, will probably never know just how accurate it could be.

Anybody know if they intend to bring back the model 7?
I have an old Model 7 MS .257 Roberts out of the old Custom Shop in Ilion.

You do know they are the same receiver though? that's like saying high end Savages when the receivers are the same as the lower end guns, they just put them in a chassis.
You're correct on ADL BDL. But you opened the door. This thread is a prime example of going to a discount store to buy a discount hunting rifle. There are also a lot of people on this thread that have held or handled these new Remingtons in the store and a few that have actually have used them so the jury is still out. But you get what you pay for. Or put on layaway, lol. The life expectancy in the field for these cheap "whole" hunting rifles is seasons, which can total up to days or weeks but not a year. And I'm not just referring to Remington. Like I said in my post you can go that route and get lucky on the receiver. But I didn't and won't on whole cheap Remington or Savage rifles. Been there and done that. The better argument is there are now better actions based on the M700. So, why buy a stock Remington receiver like I did? But if I had to do it all over again I wouldn't change a thing because it worked. If it didn't I wouldn't have posted a source for them along with my experience with one. Your suggestion to buy a $550 rifle and go through all the trouble of replacing everything just for the receiver only to find out it isn't true is throwing the dice and losing. But if your happy with a 1 moa rifle than knock yourself out, lol. This is a long distance forum. Go be poor somewhere else, lol. For Savage I also got my actions from NSS. There is a reason these sort of vendors stay in business with good reputations.

"Go be poor somewhere else. lol. " I must be on Sniper`s Hide!

You indeed have a point. Those boys shoot rifles made with components that most folks have never even heard of. " Gun snobs " doesn`t even begin to describe some ( most? ) of them!
They shoot rifles mainly for durability, which is where I was going on my long dissertation on cheaply made hunting rifles. Instead of handling just new cheap Remingtons in the store also handle the older OG ones and see the difference. They were made to pass down. The last complete rifle I bought was a limited M700 SSA ca. 2006 as it was a rare opportunity to get a Remington custom rifle for about $1,200.
