I'm not so sure that finding the right gun/shooter has been the issue as much as the amount of air between the end of the barrel and the target. But there's little doubt that today its less expensive finding a gun to use, and as long as lead is still in the air there is at least some hope.

I have a number of Savage 110 rifles, they are the equal of anything else I have in Mausingfield or Remington. It is the quality of the barrel and the skill of the shooter that makes a gun sing. All the rest is just part of the hobby.

Go back to the picture and really look at the horizontal in the group. Seriously, look at it. I'm guessing it's right around 4". Then shot 1 is low, barely on the plate, 2 goes near top, 3 is 5" above 1. It'd be really impressive if they removed that "flyer"

IMO Savage rifles are the best bang for the buck. I have one that has been modified over time. Not so much "factory" anymore except for the action and trigger are still factory.
Have two custom rifles and the difference between the Savage and the customs accuracy wise is negligible.

I hope to pull off one of those shoots to hang on my wall,,, of course it will need to be under the 12" to 16" to fit on my wall since there isn't much room with tasks of glory in hunting and fishing along with outdoor mountain top landscapes... Ha

I have the equipment to pull it off,,, just need to plant the land canon and get the pumpkin and finger to sink it together,,, that and a 14.5 moa full value cross wind. Ha

Every single factory rifle I bought in the last ten years or so is sub-MOA with hand loads. That says a lot for the manufacturers. That includes two Ruger Safaris in 375 and 416 Ruger. Amazing stuff out there.

If you get a good barrel most factory rifle shoot good. A little tune up and hand loads they can be awesome. Get a bad barrel don't waste your time. Shep

Very impressive. I have a 338 Lapua Savage. It shoots better than I can.

Shooting a 223 at 1000 yards on a regular bases would really be good practice for judging wind. I'm sure that assisted in his ability to shoot so well. His 1000 yard groups on a windy day with a 223 would look much better than my 338 lapua groups. Judging wind is a real challenging skill and some guys can doing it amazingly well.

Mine was just a WAG as to what happened. I'm not smart enough to read between the lines, just saw circles and numbers...

There were just 3 shots from cold bore with no sighters. The two other shots on the target were already there when Randy, went to bat.

Looks like "MOA" for that distance is about 22 1/2 inches. So looks like there is room for improvement, for those chasing the record.
