Saw this on Inside Addition the other day. Reporter said the bear was shot 4 times with a .45 semi auto. There's a better video of it here, Inside Addition.

Rabid bear out in the snow... man that's the start of a horror movie.
The .45 semi-auto is definitely overkill for a bear, especially if it's a larger one. Bears are tough, and it takes a lot to bring one down. Did they mention what the situation was or if the bear was posing a danger? I imagine they wouldn't have resorted to that unless they had no other option.
