Idk about 300 Norma. If memory serves the 300 PRC "bested" it due to ES/SD issues

I think you really need to take a look at the 300 NMI that Alex Wheeler and Ryan Pierce have been building and not believe what magazine articles have to say.

Personally I am scaling back, as I spend more time tinkering with different project rifles than having fun shooting. So I would stick with your rifle. that 300 norma though....

Personally id do a medium weight 6.5 saum on an XM length action and shoot the 140 version of bullets or if you wan the 156.
I probably shoot my 6.5 saum the most...… but I already have the following plus suppressors for them even the really big stuff!!!!

Well you can never have to many, so I say get a bigger boomer, perhaps a 338 RUM or Edge. They aren't the "newest" (but fall under the "greatest"), but they are fun to shoot and will get you out there farther than the whinny.

Love my EDGE Go big and fast. But this year I will hunt with a 358 Winchester: 308 with a big bullet.

He's trying to stay with .30 cal so he can use his current .30 cal Omega can.

Missed that post part; with that said, he's pretty much limited his options, so he might pick up a copy of Custom Cartridge by Ken Howell and find something really unique, like a .308 Norma mag, .30-338 Win mag ( nearly the same cartridge) or go for broke with a .300 OAM (Norway) which all add up to a .300 Win Mag... My last pick would be the .300x60 MGL Max Mag, it's all about fun right?

Rest assured guys, I've mastered what I have and I'm an accomplished long range shooter. I just like tinkering with projects.

Already have a 6.5CM for plinking. This will be another long range hunter.

I'll check with silencerco tomorrow and see what they have to say about the Omega and the 300NM. If it won't work, then all bets are off and the 338's are back on the block.

Ok, here's the scoop. I have a 300WM that I've just re-barreled re-stocked into my long range hunting rig. It's approx. 9 lbs with optics and with hand loads will shoot 1/2MOA with the Berger 210VLD's @ 2800fps. Don't ask me why, but I have the itch for a new build.

Questions:

1. Will I gain that much from a newer "latest and greatest" cartridge.
2. If so, what cartridge would you go with?

I always think to myself do I have a need for a big cartridge that shoots 100+ grains of powder and expensive heavy bullets plus a rifle that's going to coat me $2K-3K or maybe even more by the time that I get done, Or will the rifles that I already own do the same things? I usually come to the conclusion with some research, that the calibers that I already own are plenty good to do whatever task I want to accomplish with them. So, generally I'll spend the money on better optics, bullets, primers and powder and truly learn the rifles I already own. If I wear a barrel out, then I'll put a new barrel on and most likely stay with the caliber(s) that I've learned and became proficient with. So my way of thinking is, if you have one magnum, one medium and one varmint cartridge rifle, the bases are covered.

You're in a quandary like so many of us like minded gentlemen on this site. You "NEED" a new rifle and figure out what hap you want to fill. I'm a gunaholic. I caught the "disease" when I started reloading. I had a 30-06, 243 and a 300 WSM in my stable. Once I fine tuned loads for those rifles, I needed another project. Bought a 7 STW, then a 6.5-284 Norma. Then I built 2 6.5 Grendel's for night time hog hunting. Final piece to my puzzle was a 338 Lapua. I was looking at multiple choices in the 338 caliber. The reason I chose the Lapua was based on the availability of brass and all the reloading components. Plus, there's a large amount of factory ammo offerings if even needed in a pinch. This is why I dropped the 338 RUM and the wildcat 338 Edge.
Your 300 Win Mag will do everything you want and need it to do. Figure out if you want to go bigger or smaller. Then do your research from there. The 2 rifles I've enjoyed shooting the most are also the 2 that have had to have the barrels replaced. They are my 7 STW and 6.5-284 Norma. I have brakes on both and there is virtually no recoil. They are stupid accurate, too.
If you want a wildcat, look at the Sherman cartridges. Very efficient.
Good luck and have fun deciding. I always want another gun, but can't justify buying anything else at this time.
