Looking for a 6.5mm long range deer hunting round. Short action mag fed repeater only.

If you are limiting it to short actions you are limiting it to 6.5 Creedmore, Lapua, and .260 Rem unless you want to go with a wildcat done on the WSM's, or RSAUM's.

Kirby has a 6.5 Allen Mag but I'm not sure whether you can do that on a short action or not. You'd have to visit his site and look at it.

With your criteria, the .260 Rem is hard to beat all the way around.

You can build the 6.5-284 on a short action but if you are going to shoot heavies that becomes problematic.
