My perfect Wyoming Mountain rifle build thread

Well, the rifle sure proved itself on a mulie, a long ways out!!!

My buddy had some issues with his rifle, so I loaned him mine for his hunt this week. He went up with my cousin, and got on a nice mature buck. They ranged him at 1020 yards, dialed it up, doped wind and he sent it, hit a little back, just into the liver. The buck hobbled over into the trees, where they found him when they got over there!

Buck rough grossed at 187 4/8! What a stud!

Still a killer! Got a close shot on this guy, snuck up to 260 yards. Knowing how close I was and the nature of these bullets, I kept it tight but just off the shoulder, and low. Buck ran about 20 yards, slowed, and tipped over. Absolutely loving this gun, wouldn't change a thing.

Not a big buck, but I had very limited time (like 2-3 hours) and I'm hunting an area I have never been in before, so I literally shot the first buck I saw, my family goes through a lot of meat, and I don't buy red meat from the store, so I need to fill freezers!

I'd mount that sucker! Bigger than any I've killed.😂

Now that you've had some hunting experience, what pro's and con's do you see with chassis vs. "traditional" stock?
A standard vertical grip stock like an EH-1 sets a little better in the rear bag, but balance will be determined by barrel weight. Without the supressor and bipod, my rifles balance point is actually at or slightly behind the front action screw, with both, it's just in front of, but still not bad. I still like it significantly better than a similar weight sporter stocked rifle, and honestly I can still hold half MOA at range, so even if it's not as nice as an EH-1 in the bags, it still accomplishes the goal. The only other downside, is it is metal, and is cold when it's cold outside. Personally, I wear gloves when it's cold anyway. The carbon fiber is like wood though, and has a warm feel, and when I'm shooting, is what I am touching. In my opinion, the benefits such as modularity, folding, arca and/or bipod option, light weight, aics mag, rigidity, no bedding necessary, etc. far outweigh the cons.

However if I was wanting to build a super easy to shoot, forgiving rifle that I could put anyone behind, and didn't care about how cumbersome it may be in a scabbard, backpack, or how much it weighs (such as a designated pronghorn rifle), it would be a heavy vertical grip stock, and aim for about 14 lbs total weight for anything smaller than a 300 rum. My .260 AI with a 29" + brake barrel is like that, about 12.5 lbs, and it is ridiculously easy to shoot very well, but a PITA to pack around much. But again, this rifle is specific purpose driven, and outcome oriented.

Well....had a pretty awesome elk hunt the last few days with @Wedgy ha ha.

Took a few days (thats another thread!) but we managed to get into some elk and get a double! He got a nice cow at 690 using his 338 edge and a 275 CE Lazer, and I got one at 590, the 208 LRHT did work! Both elk dropped in their tracks. From late spring/early fall, all the way to deep snow and teen temps, this rifle is exactly what I wanted it to be!
