Mountain Rifle Build

Great sounding rig, where have you drawn sheep tags at?
I live in Oregon and that's the only place I've ever applied. However, I never drew and quit applying about 10 years ago because I didn't think I could do the physical work that hunting sheep in Oregon would require! I'm 78 now but when I was younger, I was able to do some deer hunting in the Alberta Rocky Mtn foothills and had seen Bighorns a number of times there. That type of hunting in those foothills would have been far easier than where we have them in Oregon! However I never did get the chance to hunt sheep in Alberta but it was still a thrill just watching big rams up close -- from one hillside to the other!

I belong to a side by side riding club and got the chance to do a ride on the Idaho side of Hells Canyon last spring. The below is what we saw! The picture was taken with a telephoto lens by one of the other people riding in our group. We were about 300 yards away from them and they didn't spook. We were riding out of Whitebird Idaho!

I built my perfect hunting rifle a couple years ago and after 2 seasons with be customizing it into my perfect mountain rifle.
I started with excellent components from Defiance, McMillan, and Xcaliber. I will be tweaking these items over the winter.
I'm sending my Game Hunter Edge back to McMillan to have an Arca rail and flush cups added as well as opening inlet to M5 for a detachable mag.
I'm trading my gunsmith my 23" Ultra Lite CF barrel for a 17" of the same style.
Defiance has my anti action for a warranty issue and I will be a customer for life because of how well they've treated me.
Pinned Talley LW rings.
Silencerco Evo Havester
Steiner H6Xi 3-18
Just need to figure out which bottom metal to go with that accepts AICS mags and I'm gtg.
This will be my ultimate everything rifle when it's all finished up and I can't hardly wait!
McMillan will do an EXCELENT job with Inletting and installing components!!!!!!!!!!!
We had them do some work on a few stocks when we were too busy to complete in time. The Inletting for Actions, bottom metal, and Pillars were as good or even better than we could do. Excellent price also! Their CNC equipment and machinist are AWESOME! Their Custome Service is EXCEPTIONAL!
They also did a RUSH job (not the 6-8 months wait) had the stocks back in a few weeks. Not to say that they will or can do that for everyone.
