My 338 Sherman Shortmag

I have the standard throat and am currently running the 250 Berger EH at 2.950
Ok. How much are you jumping those? Are you running that COAL due to mag length, or that an optimal length for the case bullet combo? I'm leaning towards a long action and long throat to be able seat bullets out for optimal case capacity.

Rich said the standard reamer is 2.965 to the lands with the 250 berger. I'm using an accurate mag and there's a bit more room left but am still playing around with the coal. I've had the 250 up to 2859 fps, once I get better brass I'm sure 2800 plus with good brass life will be very achievable. Doc is faster with his longer throat, 2900 or so.

Hey Doc, could you share what your COAL is for the 240 Bulldozer & the 250 Berger Elites. Really looking for a max COAL to help figure what action length to go with. I've been leaning towards a M70 or still a Savage. Nothing set in stone for sure. If memory serves me correctly as well you had your chamber throated long to give max capacity. All things to consider in a new build. Thanks again Doc keep up the great work. Looking forward to hearing proof reports. Kevin

Just got home Kevin. Looks like my COAL for the Bulldozer is 3.125", 250 Berger is 3.03", 285 ELDM is 2.930"
Hope that helps.

Finally settled on my hunting load.....Varget 61.3gr fed215 and 250 Berger Elite Hunter cruising at 2860'

I built the rifle using the original stock and had Dennis epoxy bed the action. I supplied him with a titanium recoil lug and pillars from Lumley. I bought an after market magazine and bolt stop from Mountain Tactical (in Montana) and this allows you to seat your bullet with disregard to limitations in length. I'm seating my final load using 250 Elite Hunters at 3.040" which is exactly .020" off the lands.(and there is room to seat further if I had the need to)
I have never felt more accomplished than to have this gem in my gunroom!...it's not often you can find true magnum performance in a short action platform!! I will post a picture of the magazine and let you know the weight later when I get home tonight.
If you need more insight you are always welcome to call or text me at 918-541-6847

I'm willing to bet that you'll be equally happy to have one of these. I didn't get to Elk hunt this year but can't hardly wait to line up my crosshairs on one for sure!

As built, my rifle weighs 9.7lbs w/o the magazine. I used a Leupold 20MOA rail and UTG rings and a Zeiss 3.5-15 HD5(sent to Kenton Industries and had MOA turrets installed)
Attached is a pic of the magazine from Mountain Tactical and there's plenty of room for longer pills
