My 338 Sherman Shortmag

Standard reamer and 230 eldx was 2.775 coal at the lands in my rifle. I throated it out another .120 or so after.
Appreciate that info ruby76!!!!

I chose the 3 round 300WSM accurate mag for this 338SS. I currently run the .308 accurate mag for my 7mm 08 at a COAL of 2.940 with 162 ELDM but there is not a lot of room remaining.

I figured if I had the chamber cut for a 2.900 with the 230 ELDX and and a 20 thou jump I would have room to throat it longer and increase the COAL a bit if necessary.

I did the same thing with my 7mm 08 and it worked perfect just wasn't sure 2.900 was gonna cause an issue with the 230 sunk too deep in the case.

Btw what fps are you 338SS users seeing with Varget in a 22" barrel? 2800fps is my magic number at the altitudes I cruise at….9-12k ft

update: found the answer to my question on page 47.

RemV 1838 fps
RemE 1726 ft lbs

600 yards
RemV 2202 fps

RemV 1755 fps
RemE 1572 ft lbs

mine, with a 22" tube was getting 2830 with the 230's
Ive put it on the shelf for a little while and have to bring it back out and play with it again
So far comparing the 2 ss i have to a 300 wsm
The wsm has been far far far easier to get it shooting good
The sherman brass/reamer/chamber spec issues have been a big **** off

Just learned yesterday from Preferred Barrels that there is "B" version of the reamer print and seems this change in the print will clear up the issue between ADG brass and chamber match up…I am sure Rich can add to this development.
