Moving from 6.5 PRC to 300 PRC

Enjoy your 6.5 and learn to shoot, develop loads, etc. Not too many elk around that could tell the difference with a well placed shot between the two PRC's. Plan ahead and save for a dream build on the 300 in a year or so. Repeat. Everyone needs a great shooting .308 WIN, so don't get rid of it.

I get free employer .308, so that's staying.

To everyone else's suggestions…because of that, I feel like the .308 and the 6.5 overlap more than the 300 PRC would on either cartridge. Plus more umphf at distance.

I think as soon as I'm off super secret new member probabtion, I'll be posting the 6.5 in the classifieds.

What game are you hunting?
Deer and hog mostly. If I can ever score a chance out west, Elk.

You won't regret it- I have a close friend who is an expert instructor for an ELR shooting school, former Army sniper instructor. I asked the same question and he steered me straight to 300 PRC, explaining all the benefits. Downside, join the rest of us holding our breath to buy bergers, RL26 or H1000, and Fed 215M's...

This is another reason why buyers remorse set in. Out at a few precision schools after getting the 6.5 built…everyone was singing the 300 praises.

I appreciate everyone's input, I think I'll be posting the 6.5 shortly.

My 300PRC is built on the following and it is the best LR Hunting Rifle that I ever purchase. Scope is a Zeiss Conquest V6 3-18x50 ZMOA-2 Reticle BDC Turret - 30mm

I never ever sell guns.
With that being said, I would sell the 6.5 prc.
6.5 is now synonymous with Creedmoor and has forever ruined the 6.5 caliber. It actually makes me slightly nauseous to say the words six point five.
Now I agree, 6.5 prc is not a bad cartridge, but I do believe it's a gateway cartridge that leads down a slippery slope to full on man buns and gay bath houses.

And you probably own 10 of them 6.5s with a full supply of hair ties along side you razor. Probably braid your beard also. All in fun!

Talked myself out of getting a 300 PRC over the summer for a 6.5 PRC and buyers remorse has set.

I have a .308 for closer hunts/shooting…. The 300 would be obviously for LR/ELR.

Is there anyone with better insight than me that can talk me out of a 300 PRC or should I just go with what the heart desires?
What do you plan on hunting and at what distances

300PRC brass is hard to come by and to make it worse so is loaded ammo. 300WM is not. Not to mention multiple manufacturers make ammo for the 300wm so brass and ammo is available. I'd get a 300wm and have it throated for heavier bullets and run with it. Ballistics will be virtually identical with components and ammo being easier to find.

If I was gonna stay in a standard LA, I'd go 7 Rem Mag. You're gonna be hard pressed to find higher BC bullets than the 7mm's til you get into the big 30's. I'm running 180 hybrids at 2950 w/ 71gns of H1K and no pressure. That's gets me to 1k in 6.6 Mils at 1000' DA. It'll fit your bill perfectly and do it with less recoil.

I've currently been trying to Make a decision on a big 30 and decided against the 300 RUM and went with the 300 Norma due to the Lapua brass. 230's at 3k+ is pretty appealing to me. 😂

Hands down the 300 Rum for me !
But my hole family shoots them .
It's really a great round if you think about it ...
Remington had a great idea when they started building them .
You can buy 150 gr for the small critters you hunt , jump up to the 180gr for Mule deer and when you get that Elk or a Montana Spring Bear tag grab some 200 gr or 210 gr !!

I load now but went through the statement made above .
Now I'm sending the 230 bergers at 3036 ft.per.sec.
In the end there is no bad choice the 300 prc you talk about wanting will be just fine on game ...
Good luck in your Quest for the One !

Oh ..ps. my Wife has her own 300 Rum ..she hates the 210 gr . But seems happy with the 180's ! Lol the critters on the wall not so much ! 🤣🤣

Rum Man
