Let’s play Long-ish range shooting monthly Challenge

Why not do 200 kneeling? Than 300 with a fence post/gate.

Kneeling! 🙀 Many years ago I missed an easy 100 yard shot on a decent bull elk when I attempted a "kneeling shot"…..I missed so badly, the elk didn't even spook! 🤬

How about with eyes closed…..I couldn't do any worse than shoting from kneeling position! 😜 memtb

P-henry ,
shooting sports , hunting are about the only thing i spend money on. When i retired there was a column in my budget for shooting .
over the yrs as a competitive shooter i have built an awesome range. Having a wife that enjoys the same sport made it alot easier to accomplish.
3-1/2 miles of roads and 100+ pieces of steel hanging ,
im addicted to shooting ,
there are worst addictions , but probably not any more costly !
i hear Heroin is cheap ! Lol

Is anyone else surprised there haven't been more takers on this?

I'm hoping to maybe get another rifle or two out to try again. I'm thinking instead of trying so hard to hold steady, which is absolutely impossible in my mind (or in my hands), maybe I'll try doing a kind of drive-by-shooting in that I'll try to time the trigger pull as the sights approach the bull.
Does that make sense?
Kind of like wing shooting with a rifle???
All I know is the crosshairs were moving so much I could just as well had been shooting at a passing duck!

Ron, I too am a bit surprised and disappointed by the lack of participation!

If I may throw this out there …… derived at through my powerful deductive reasoning skills aided by the SWAG system.

I believe that the majority of shooters on this site are more dedicated to using shooting aides such as benches, bi/tri pods, ect. . While they may have superb equipment for LR Shooting, they may not have the skillsets for other shooting disciplines.

I guess it's what we prioritize in our shooting! Or in my case……prioritize nothing! I can excel at nothing better than most! 🤪😂memtb

I don't know why more don't throw in. I just love a good old fashioned contest. I admit I can find a place to shoot pretty easy, so maybe others just dont have reasonable distance place they can go shoot. Make no bones about it for me loosing sucks DD, but trying is pure pleasure. I only have until next thur if the weather cooperates then I'm busy until mid Feb. So whats next? Same challenges smaller kill zone? Steep angles up or down? Opposite of your dominant side. Righties shoot lefty and vice versa? Muzzle loader with iron sights? Pistols, 22's, I'm for it if I have the needed equipment.

I like your style! I've done a little "weak side" shooting, and have often though about shooting my hunting rifle "weak side"…..but am too CS! It kicks "pretty sporty", and I'm not certain that I'll get proper stock fit! I don't look good in stitches! 😜

Many years ago when hunting from a tree stand, I had a deer come up hard to my right……not wanting to get busted by turning my whole body in the stand, I shot from my left shoulder! It was successful! 😉 memtb

Weak side off a bench @ 100 be tougher than freehand for me i think. I have a similar story of shooting from a tree stand. I scoped myself through and bled all over everything. I have a picture somewhere of me with the deer and you would think I needed 75 stitches with the amount of blood on my face. I needed nothing but a wash cloth, no stitches or glue, my mother made me put a bandage on it that first night so I wouldn't get any blood on my pillow case.

My hunting rifle has 59 ft/lbs recoil…..the thought of shooting "weak side" makes me "weak in the knees"! 😂 memtb

I already shoot weak sided because of my eye dominance. My strong side eye is bad enough that it would be difficult for me to see the target, even in the scope. If we do that, I will have to bow out.

I hoping to get the first challenge done this weekend, since we only have rain in the forecast and I shouldn't have to work plowing snow.

Lol i'm the third one here that set his tree stand at the wrong angle , deer comes right in nose to the ground with no signs of stopping , i switch to left hand position and still cant find the angle. I pushed the butt of rifle right over on my left bicept , bingo i can see the deer in the scope , pull the trigger ,scope hit me , didnt cut me , recoil put a big bruise on my whole bicep . My arm was sore for a wk .
everytime i took and package of that deer out the freezer i remembered that shot .

i have been heavily invovled in competitive shooting sports most of my life and people are funny to try anything they are not comfy with. Men love to train and shoot what they are good at. They just wont spend the time and train what they suck at. To much of an ego hit ? I think ? Being afraid to fail stops people from trying .
i have learnt more from failing than success .
i promise you if you put some time into practicing what u suck at you wont suck at it for long.
training at everything will make you a better Overall shooter and more confident hunter ,with less misses or follow up shots.
much less worrying about caliber choices and bullet choices is a big advantage knowing with confidance that you can put a bullet in the spot it needs to go.
with peoples schedules, kids , family, it really comes down to prioritizing whats important to you.
shooting comes in way behind them most of the time .
my whole family shoots so family time at the range almost filled a whole squad and checked two boxes for me .

A lil fun challenge like this can be just enough motivation to get you out there .
keep them coming

I shot PRS type stuff 10 + years ago and will admit I can't shoot as good I as could then. I shot a lot ( few times a week) in every weather condition and different physical positions. I'm going to at least take a couple shots from non bench/prone positions from now on when I go to the range. I've gotten to comfortable always having a solid rest and need to start practicing again without one.
