Kmccord, If you had ever carried a .223 in combat, you would know it is a piece of Sh** round. No range, not much knockdown, and you don't always have time to aim perfectly! However it is a good round for training women and kids basic marksmanship because it doesn't have much recoil. But if you can't handle the recoil of at least a 6.5, you probably shouldn't be hunting anything above a prairie dog anyway!

Then again, DJ tried a .223 and from what I understand, and he will probably refute this, he had several head shot boars get back up and chase him onto the roof of his truck! According to his story, he had one of these that got up into the bed of his truck and he had to eventually subdue with a tire jack handle ! BUT, I suspect it was a .308 tire jack handle! Personally, I use a .308 and it seems to work just fine out to 600 yards. Beyond that my eyes fail me, but the round doesn't.

Mainly it depends on where you are hunting, what you are hunting and if you have all the time in the world to take an accurate shot. Try shooting at running hogs with a .223 and all you'll get is wounded and unrecoverable hogs.

To each his own! Oh, and happy stitches if you are wrong and that darned boar gets back up!

pee sack... dint i see you jonesing for a tactical lawnmower? when you get it, make sure to try out the tactical obstacle course.

DJ, would never be jonesing for anything involving a jones, especially one certain one! However the solution to the Lawnmower obstacle course is easy with a tactical lawnmower, just fire 2 of those over the seat rockets backwards just as you launch! should carry you right over the last obstacle. (And maybe off the field.)

yep.. i remember that incident with the 223. emptied a full 30 round mag right into his faaace at 3 meters. he was playing dead in the truck when all of a sudden he sprang up and tried to bite me. yea... give me a tire iron any day over a 223!!

got a few hogs tonight. late for me too and 8:00 comes around early. got some pics and vid. will post them later.

Packrat I never thought the .223 was a great cartridge, it just happened to be the only cartridge I have in an AR, I was not going to use my 28 Nosler, or my 7RM, or my 270 or any others in my arsenal. I will agree it doesn't have much knock down power, heck I really did not want an AR-15, but my B-I-L needed to sell his. My plan is to purchase a 6.5 Grendel upper for the purpose of hog hunting using an AR-15, just so happens a Sounder had moved in on us and went with what I had and it worked great, again it comes down to shot placement, as I stated in my story, I had used my Caldwell Field pod for a rest, without that rest, no way I could have hit them in the brain/neck sternum to drop like a rock. The distance was 80 yds and 100yds, and 100 is my Max with this cartridge. The thread has the Title in the ear, really, so thought I would share my experience, I did not expect to hear from someone basically calling me a liar (DJ) then you being a smartass.

Kmccord, You need to go back about 50 pages or so to get the gist of this thread. In fact go back to the start and start reading from October of 2014 (page 5) where I started bugging djones and you'll find that all of this is just meant as a fill in until someone posts a picture of some hogs. Over the ensuing 162 pages since I joined, I have managed to convey a fairly accurate description of djones and have accused him of everything, except sodomizing the neighbors mule. During that entire time, no matter what else he did, we have never turned our backs on him, and neither has the mule, come to think of it!

That is just the way this thread runs and while DJ and I both have no use for a .223, for hunting hogs, if you'll go back you'll find a number of references and discussions about it previously. There is absolutely nothing personal about it, but we do find out who can pick up the jibes and throw them back. While anyone is always welcome, some people just can't be as uncouth and rowdy as we normally are!

From DJ's semi-paragraph above, even while apologizing to you , he had to take several jabs at me! Nothing serious, just the way he is, and as you can tell, I only respond in self defense!

BUT since a number of us have been warned by LRH at least once, or maybe 25 times, in some cases, (DJ), if you decide to respond, we have to be oblique in our comments. Don't say it, insinuate it! And common swear words are verboten!

OK, bad news for DJ! Test results came out negative for my Great-grandson, so I will be flying back out tomorrow! Dr(s) said that it looked like the original tests had been contaminated because some of the original results were contradictory! But to be safe they had to run them again under controlled conditions! OK, am relieved and can come home!

BTW, DJ, Nice hogs! However isn't that small one in the bottom picture, left forefront one of the trained ones you keep in the barn just to have pictures as needed? You still trying that stuff on us?

I'm still angry at DJ for eloping with my prize winning sheep! I was about to enter her in the state fair but DJ snatched her up and took her off to Vegas. I was able to get a photo of their first dance from the reception! I heard the DJ can really move on the dance floor!

DJ, OK, so that is twice you have promised us videos and haven't posted a single one! Are we back to not having picture posted again and just have to take you at your word that the baby head shots were "Galactic"? Make up your mind, because up to now, by your own statements, "No Pics, didn't happen".

Scrmblr, Are you upset that he took off with your pet sheep or that he was the one that got to deflow...........dance with her? Once someone talked my dad into putting about 12 sheep out in the horse pasture. The darned things ate the grass right down flush with the ground and we had bare patches all over the place. He finally traded them off for two calves, and felt like he made a good trade. Took a number of years for the pasture to grow back the way it had been.

Anyway, am home now and have a lot of things to play catch up on. Not the least is getting djones back on track, rather than promising and then not performing, although I hear from his lady friends that, that is typical!

Wearing the tooth from a Badger is considered good luck! Getting a tooth from a Badger means you were lucky to start with!
