The language of the Arachnid

A quick search: "Some spiders, just like some insects, create sound by stridulation: rubbing specially adapted parts of their limbs against a sort of stiff ``washboard'' surface elsewhere on their bodies. It can sound like buzzing or hissing to us humans." Some articles also describe chirping. It's also stated they can vibrate into their web.

The Recluse's silk is described as flat, not round like that of most other spiders. I have heard jumping spiders make noises as well, like on a window sill. I always thought they were barking at me, lol. It could be that just a tiny percentage of humans have the hairs to pick up vibrations; I don't know. I find it odd no one else has ever experienced this.

I know I have spiders as I see them sometimes in house, mostly my shop. Not sure what they are.I woke up one morning for work and my top lip was swollen, next day my bottom lip was.Really annoying then went away.Guy I worked with got bit by one cleaning on his log home, he had a bad reaction and had to go for treatment.
Did this this occurred after a spat with the wife?

I had a friend with a pet Tarantula that hissed. My standard policy is See spider- Squash spider. I do not suffer from arachnophobia, but just have no use for them. I feel the same about rats and mice.

I totally believe you. And now I will have to listen closer to see if I can hear spiders. While I would like to hear those spiders before I reach into far corners of my hardware cabinets in the garage I don't (I use gloves). But when I was a kid I always wondered what the big deal was with my neighbor's "silent dog whistle", and later I found that silent alarms in jewelry and gun stores were excruciating. I could also hear the CRTs of TVs and computers to the extent that I would know where the the TV section was in a huge department store as soon as I entered. Yeah, other people thought that was weird. LED screens are my friend.

Human ability to hear frequencies is always stated as "normal ranges" but there have to be a lot of people who hear above and below "normal frequency" ranges. What is defined as ultrasound or infrasound are measurable and identifiable, but they are called that because the majority of people with "normal" hearing don't hear those frequencies. A lot of other animals hear in higher and lower frequency ranges than humans.

I will admit that brown recluses and black widows, as well as anything that looks like them or ghost spiders do get crunched. I don't mind other spiders, and usually just relocate them outside.

Maybe spiders are actually like rattlesnakes and try to warn you before they bite? We just can't hear them. Some of my friends can't hear rattlesnakes either.
