IMR 8133?

Does anyone have any experience with the 8133 and 338 edge and or the 338 lapua,

I've just done some initial pressure tests with this over the last few months and have not had time to return to do any more testing. I have tried it in my 338 Edge, 300 Dakota, and 270 Sherman. *as usual these are my tests/loads and not to try without starting much lower (10%) and working up.
In the Edge I ran up to 98 grains of 8133 with a 285 ELD-M which was absolute max and no where near usable. The magneto showed 3051fps for the one shot. I started at 93 grains with 2859 fps. I am running N570 for my go to load in this around 2950 fps with no pressure so 8133 appears to be a slightly faster burn than N570.

With the 270 Sherman and the 170 Berger I maxed out at 3049 fps at 71 grains. 69 grains gave me 2955 fps.

Finally the Dakota I used the 225 Eld-M and for fun I fired 1 round each of a mild load (82 grains) to see the difference between Retumbo, 8133 and N 570. Retumbo gave me 2893 (most pressure sign), 8133 showed 2864 with no pressure signs, and N 570 was clear down at 2792 fps. For my pressure test with the 225 ELD-M and 8133 ran up to 2999 fps with 87 grains.

I have also done a little work with LRT and have found it to be as slow if not slower than RL33.

Idaho Trecker have you done any more testing with these powders and what have you settled on in your various cartridges?

I am not sure what the case capacity of the 300 Dakota is and how it compares to the 300 norma mag but I will be working with a norma mag and 215 and 230 bergers.

I was considering 8133 because I have heard reports and had experience myself with n570 being hard on barrels. H1000 is likely the most stable and easiest on barrels but will give up some velocity and might be to fast for the 230's in the norma mag.

I have not had a chance to do anymore testing and I just dropped off both my 300 Dakota and 338 edge at my smith to have some work done so it could be a while. I'm also waiting for new bushings to arrive from work which could be a month out before I can run more in my 270 Sherman.

Well I couldn't stand it and ran some of my turned brass in my 270 Sherman with 8133. I was holding hope for this powder in this rifle but have ended up with similar results as elkaholic did in his 30/375 si with this powder. Very inconsistent and huge ES! I tested the temp stability and it gave me some wierd results also.
I dont have my notes in front of me but depending on how you look at the numbers it either had a .46 fps/degree to .7fps/degree. I tried different primers to see if I could get the es down to no avail.
I'm still going to try it in my Dakota and edge when I get them back.

I got to try it out a little on my 338RUM in October. I was running 89gr in ADG virgin brass with 300gr SMKs. From my 28" Benchmark 9.4 twist I was getting a pretty stable 2830 during break in. I was having some action timing issues so he testing stopped there for the time being. That 89gr is basically the min load from Hodgdon in a 24" barrel and I was getting near max load speeds, so there's some more testing in the future. If the trend continues, I suspect that it will give very good velocity. I did run a few at 92 gr, and those loads were lightly compressed but gave me true one hole accuracy.

Whacked a moose on Sept 18, 2018 using IMR 8133 with a Badlands 338 cal 270 gr Super Bulldozer bullet, Lapua brass in 300 Norma Mag necked up to 338 and fireformed to my improved version, steamrolled the poor guy at pointy stick n string range, def not a LR shot, ha

ran out of time and never had a chance to complete load development, accuracy was excellent with what I had going so I went with it, bullets were seated deep to fit in mags and I ran out of case capacity before seeing any signs of pressure or satisfactory velocity, fairly long bullet jump as well but the Bulldozers shot excellent at 100 yards,

plan on seating to lands in single shot mode to wring this powder out a bit, maybe the powder is a tad slow for 270 gr bullets, RL 26 offered 3050 fps with 265 gr CEB MTH bullets so I know the cartridge is capable, not enough trigger time with 8133 to make a solid judgement yet

filled the freezer real good though

Revival time... any more experience with this stuff... I'm still trying to get my WM to shoot how I want. So far no luck with.... H1000 or RL-26. I got decent results with IMR 4831 but I think my grandmas Buick is faster, now I'm working with IMR 4350. Loooking to pick up a couple pounds of different powder to try. Just wondering if anyone has had any luck with this one.

Try some Retumbo, magpro or imr 7828 in the win mag. Those work well with heavy bullets seated out to 3.5" +

You're probably not going to be any faster with 4350, unless you're trying 150's. IMR7977 might be one to try too

RL23 may be worth a look in the 300wm. We just did a nice load work up with it and 181g Hammer Hunter. Saw a little better vel than we have with 7828ssc.

Any more data on 8133? Have 7mm blaser improved and tried h100 and recently retumbo with 68-70g behind eol 195 at 2850-2920fps. Curious if I could get another 30-50fps over retumbo?

Elkaholic

Mind if I ask what you have found works best in your 7max and eol 195s? It seems like my round is very similar. I've got a 24" 1:8. You have also mentioned how your chamber takes a couple more grains to pressure than most, could you explain this difference? I'm very inexperienced in reloading let alone a wildcat so I'm just going slow and trying to figure things out. I feel my h1000 load is quite good, i was just hoping to be 2900-2950 range, but no desire to be right on the ragged edge....but I have no experience yet on what the edge really looks like lol
