Didn't draw anything, thought a Bear would be a snap

You don't need any points to draw a bear tag in Michigan in the UP. There are units that you can draw tags every year for the third hunt. I draw every couple years in Gwinn. I drew a Bull Elk tag in 1991. Had to wait 10 years before putting in again for a bull tag. I've got something like 22 chances now and hope to draw another Bull tag and my last.

Probably need 5-6 points for a first hunt i'd think. I think we need 6 for Gwinn. I put in for the second hunt and usually need 2. Few years ago, we only needed one point for a second hunt. With non-residents now putting in and the DNR cutting tags in all the counties, it takes 2 points now for a second Gwinn hunt.

I'll be putting in for bear, Red Oak. Takes a bunch of points. Can't put in for elk, drew the bull tag last year.

I'm sitting on 10 bear points for the Baldwin unit. Elk is still a dream. Not holding my breath.

Wow. I did hear Baldwin has some good bears. Red Oak takes about 9-10 too but a ton more hunters.
