Glock 20 and Brown Bear

Mike and I were the going heavy in the 454 days (be safe) these were the good old days. The 10mm data McNette and I will get you in the right area (we tested these loads). Just saying!!!

I don't think the big boars even feel the 20s going down and out.

I'm a big animal rights activist myself, so I carry a 29 and file down the front sight.... can't have them having blockages..

Although on second thought in the fall they eat lots of fiber right before hibernation.... maybe it's time to switch back to the 20...

I just got my 1/12 twist re-barreled 500 S&W back, 4"-barrel, muzzle brake to finish at final length of 5", and I've got another that'll put it just sub 6" if I find it's worth it.
The smith tested it with his load, 520gr hardcast went 1470fps for just a nudge shy of 2500 ft/lbs

Fits in all my holsters for the original 4" version it was factory, muzzle brake just sticks out a hair.

For reference, the 340gr +p+ 44 mag is about 1500 ft/lbs of energy, has a 264 sectional density and can only be shot in a few guns. Good load for a handgun no doubt.

If I shot for the same ft/lbs of energy this 500 would kick about like a 38 special and still run that 520gr bullet which has a 296 sectional density, just shy of the 300 they like to see for African dangerous game.

We'll see where I end up, hoping to keep the 2500 ft/lb load in the gun for the big game, maybe see about something a bit more reduced for practice.

The faster twist is so these stabilize well and the smith got some great accuracy with them, all looks well, I'll run some 600gr rounds as well to see, I want to run some hillbilly penetration tests and test straight line penetration by using some angled material to try and deflect the path, see if it stays straight.

Been felling trees the past couple days, had a big 8-10" diameter branch fall on me about 2hrs ago, that was a real hoot...

So did you shoot that bear? I'm confused by the different posts.
Lord No
It was shot by a Airman on Ft Richardson AK. It was a self defense kill in a Bow Only Zone while recovering his moose kill.
The Airman used his G20 and Hardcast ammo.
The G20 sell like hot cakes here in Alaska. Very popular with the right ammo for bear protection.

Especially when they are seasoned with pepper spray!
One of our main biologists got bit pretty good on a stream survey. We brought him some quality meat seasoning to put in his waders, claiming the bears didn't like his jambalaya thigh..... preferring a more mesquite flavor....

He thought it was hilarious....his wife did not.

I bought my G20 Glock from Scheel's a few years ago. It came with 3 magazines and night sights also has a HIDTA which stands for High Interval Drug Task agency. Got it for 450 bucks, really good deal I thought. Now I load 165 Grain Leigh bullets in it and it will go all the way through a Bear and any other animal I shoot it with
